Advanced In-situ construction methods

(Vertical slip form system )
(Moving shuttering)
- This method is not used long ago
- It started when constructing grain bridges, high chimneys, water tanks and towers.
- The main objective of this construction was:
• Search for a method for casting concrete in the high buildings of a fixed section
at a high sped rate.
• To ensure the solidification of concrete during continuous casting operations,
resulting in one continuous piece of construction without joints.
- The use of this method extended to multi storey buildings.
- It was used to construct architectural buildings especially the central areas of the
buildings or the core of the building.
- It is also used to cast the internal and external walls of fixed section.
- It differs from other methods in the possibility of continuous concrete casting into
formwork that moves upward, i.e. the formwork gradually raises by jacks at a constant
rate with the continuous casting of the concrete inside this formwork.
- The speed rate depends on the initial curing time of the concrete, i.e. on the limit that
the concrete allow to maintain its formation under its heavy weight.
The basic idea:
- The main idea is summarized in the process of continuous casting of concrete into
wooden or metal formworks, raised by hydraulic jacks, in a vertical way gradually and on
constant rate, and the concrete is being casted from the top of the formwork, with the
continuity of placing reinforcing steel.
- The lifting time is calculated according to the initial curing time for concrete, which
differs according to the type of cement and the method of curing.
- For example, if the steam curing method is used, it is possible to increase the speed of
slipping upwards.
Vertical slip formwork:

Formwork slipping rate:

- The formwork slip upwards by hydraulic jacks at a rate between 15 cm - 30 cm per hour.
- This rate is determined according to the cement used in the concrete.
- Fast curing cement differs from other types and also the curing method used, so it is
necessary to know the initial curing time of the concrete or the degree of solidification
that allows the concrete to maintain its formation with high accuracy, otherwise the
concrete will fall when slipping up.
