The words ‘so‘ and ‘such‘ can be used in a few different ways in English, but this lesson will focus on how
these words can add emphasis to your sentences (to make the meaning of your sentences stronger).

Example:
- He is such a handsome boy

So + adjective/adverb

Example
:

Example:
He spoke so quickly I couldn’t understand him

Video 3:
Do you want to emphasize what you’re saying?

- This isn’t just a “great” present.

- It’s SUCH A great present!
- This isn’t just an ordinary English lesson.
- It’s SUCH A useful lesson!

In my opinion, when you can use natural expressions like “such a” in daily conversation, your English will
go to the next level.

Let’s look at a short sample story:

- When I went to bed last night, I had such a hard time sleeping because I was so excited.
- The next day, I was going to get on a plane and see my sister in New York.
- Well, when I woke up and looked outside, it wasn’t such a beautiful day for flying. It was
cloudy, rainy, and windy.
- It didn’t matter to me. It would be such a great trip no matter what!

In this story, I used “such a” with an adjective (hard, beautiful, great).

Sometimes simply saying, “It was a good vacation,” isn’t enough. What if it was a fabulously
wonderful vacation?

You can say, “It was SUCH A good vacation!”
