Grade Level/Learning Area Grade 8- Science

Quarter/Week Quarter 1/ Week 5
MELC Explain the hierarchy of colors in relation to the energy
of visible light

Directions: Choose the letter of the correct answer. Write your answer on your answer sheets.

1. The illustration above shows the specific wavelength of each color of the visible light. Explain the hierarchy
of colors in relation to the wavelength each color possess.

A. Each color possesses different wavelength

B. The colors are ranked based on its wavelength.
C. The colors are ranked from the most vibrant to least.
D. From red to violet, the wavelength decreases in the color spectrum of visible light.

2. Dispersion is the process of splitting white light

when passes through the glass of a prism, the colors of the spectrum will appear in order from (violet,
indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, and red). When light moves from one medium to another the speed of
its propagation changes because the light is bent or refracted in the direction of the triangle's base as it
travels through a prism. Which among the colors of the spectrum bend or refracted the most?

A. Indigo has a shorter wavelength next to violet

B. The black color absorbed all the colors of light
C. Red bends the least, having the longest wavelength.
D. Violet bends the most, having the shortest wavelength.

3. Your group in science is given the task to analyze the table with
approximate wavelength, frequency, and energy of the various colors in visible light. Given the table, how
will you describe the relationship of wavelength and frequency to the energy of visible light?

A. The primary colors of light are red, green, and blue.

B. Just as wavelength and frequency are related to light, they are also related to energy.
C. Any given beam of light has specific values of frequency, wavelength, and energy associated with it.
D. The shorter the wavelengths and the higher the frequency corresponds the greater the energy. So, the
longer the wavelengths and the lower frequency results in lower energy.

4. After a shower of rain, you decided to go outside your house because you need to buy something to the
supermarket. While you were walking you saw a rainbow. Why do you see rainbows after it rains?

A. Because the rain is illuminated by bright sunshine.

B. Because it is brought by the bright sunshine and lots of water drops.
C. Because the rain shower moves in the direction away from the sun relative to you then you have a good
chance of seeing a rainbow.
D. Because the sunlight passes through raindrops at just the right angle, the light is split into an arc of
colors with red on the outside of the band and violet on the inside.

5. Violet color has the shortest wavelength but highest frequency and the greatest amount of energy while red
color has the longest wavelength, lowest frequency, and least amount of energy. What is the relationship
among energy, frequency, and wavelength of colors in white light?

A. Colors of light depends on your eyesight.

B. Visible light is very small fraction of the visible spectrum.
C. Red light has the lowest frequency and energy but the longest wavelength.
D. The speed of the various wavelengths in glass is different, slowest for violet light and fastest for red light.
Red light has the lowest frequency and energy, but the longest wavelength compared to another visible
spectrum. Violet light has the highest frequency and energy, but the shortest wavelength compared to
another visible spectrum.
