I. Objectives:
At the end of the required period, all the pupils present should be able to;
1. identify the living things and non-living things,
2. differentiate between living and non-living things,
3. classify group objects into living and Non-living things.

II. Subject Matter: Living Things and Non-Living Things


Reference: Science 3 for a Changing Environment pp. 182 – 183

III. Materials: Pictures of living things and non-living things

IV. Procedure

A. Introduction
Energizer “Monkey Dance”

B. Modelling

 Showing pictures of living and non-living things


 Discuss and differentiate the living and non-living things

Living Things have these characteristics
1. It moves by itself
2. It grows
3. It needs foods
4. It reproduce
5. It breath

Non- Living Things don’t have those characteristics

Let’s go back to the pictures

What can you say about the flower?


Is it Living Things or Non – Living Things? Living Things
Why? It move by itself
It grow, it need
Food.
Very Good!

How about the two people “Lolo & Lola” Living Things
Is it Living Things or Non – Living Things? It move by itself
Why? It grow, it need
Foods.

The Electric Fan? Non-Living Things

Very Good!
Because it does need food, it will never grow,
it will not move by itself, it will not reproduce.

The Dog? Living Things


It move by itself
It grow, it need
Foods.

So what is Living Things? Living Things, it


grow,
reproduce, it
moves by itself, its
breath and it need
food.

Non-Living Things? Non-Living Things,


don’t have those
characteristics,
can’t grow, move
or reproduce, they
don’t need water,
air and food.

Valuing:
We have to take good of all the things.
May it be living or Non-Living for it is
God’s creation.

C. Guided Practice

 Let the pupils pick a picture from the table


 And let them paste it on the board to classify
whether it is a living thing or non – living things

D. Group Practice

 Pupils will be group into 3


 In one minute, they will write down on the manila paper of the things they
can see inside and outside the classroom
 Then they will classify them into living or non-living things

E. Independent Practice
 The pupils will identify the things written in each number.
 Let them write living things or Non-living things on the space provided.

V. Post Assessment
 Let the pupils look and find out at least 10 of the living things and non – living
things in their community.
