I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to;
a. Differentiate living things from nonliving things
b. Classify objects into living and non-living things
c. Value the existence of living and nonliving things

II. Subject Matter


A. Topic: Characteristics of Living and Non-Living Things

C. Materials: PowerPoint presentation, visual aids, and video presentation

III. Procedure

A. Preliminary Activities

1. Greetings
- The teacher will greet his/her pupils.
2. Checking of Attendance
- The teacher will check the class attendance.
3. Checking of Assignment
- The teacher will collect/check the assignment.

B. Developing Activities
4. Review
- What are the basic needs of animals?
- What happened to the animals if they are not provided with this
need?
5. Motivation
- The teacher will show a video presentation entitled ‘’ living things
song ‘’.

IV. ANALYSIS

1. What was the video all about?


2. What did you see in the video?
3. Do you have a pet at home?
4. Did animals have a life?
5. What about the trees, it is important to have air?
6. How about the human need for nutrients?

V. ABSTRACTION

Characteristics- is a special quality or appearance that makes an


individual or a group, different from others’ physical
characteristics.

Living things- move, respond to stimuli reproduce and grow,


respire, and are dependent on their environment, most living things
need food, water, light, temperature, within defined limits, and
oxygen.

Characteristics of living things


• Living thing can breathe
• Living things can grow
• Living things can move by itself
• Living things need nutrients
• Living things can reproduce

Examples
- human, animals, and plants

Non-living things- are inanimate objects or forces with the ability to


influence, shape, alter habitat and impact its life, non-living things
can be defined as the things which do not have any possess life.

Characteristics of nonliving things are:


• Nonliving things are lifeless
• Non-living things do not breath
• Non-living things do not move by its self
• Non-living things do not grow and develop
• Non-living things do not reproduce

Examples
- Rocks, chair, table, shoes, facemask

Non-living things do not do anything that living things can do.


The teacher will present real objects and artificial objects to
differentiate and classify each.

Direction: Write YES or NO according to their characteristics.

VI. APPLICATION
The teacher will group the pupils into two groups

Direction: Classify each random picture and give its characteristics.

Group 1 – living things


Group 2 – non-living things

VII. GENERALIZATION
In a form of the game.
The pupils will pass the ball while singing ‘’ living things song. When the
music stops the pupil who is holding the ball will answer the question in
the mystery box.
