LESSON Time
PLAN

Lesson Plan No.

I. OBJECTIVES
The learners demonstrate understanding of the concept of a species.
A. Content Standards
1. Performance Standards The learners should be able to report (e.g., through a travelogue) on the activities that
communities engage in to protect, and conserve endangered and economically important
species.
2. Learning Competencies
Write the LC code for each The learners should be able to explain the concept of a species; (S8LT-Ivg-19)
3. Learning Targets: At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Define species
2. Differentiate endangered, critically endangered, extinct, and endemic species.
3. Determine endangered and economically important species.
4. Describe their characteristics, traits, and economic importance.
5. Give names of species known in the community

II. CONTENT Living Things and Their Environment

1. Biodiversity
1.1 Species diversity (1)
III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages pp. 169 - 17
2. Learner’s Materials pages pp. 223-224
3. Textbook pages
4. Additional Materials from
Learning Resource (LR) portal
B. Materials Projector, Laptop, Speaker, activity sheets
IV. PROCEDURES
A. ELICIT: Recall on Grade 7 lesson regarding Living Things other than Plants and Animals.
 The teacher may ask the following:
1. Are mushroom andar-arusep(lató) also plants?
2. Are bird‟s animals?
3. Why do you say so?

 Let them share their learned knowledge on the given questions above to recap
on their Grade 7 Science lessons through ‘’Think Pair Share’’ technique with
their seatmates, by using a Circle Model Organizer (see attachment).
Mushroom and ararusep are kinds of living organisms that possessed some of
the diversified characteristics of plants that made them also plant..
B. ENGAGE: Using contextualized photos of organisms found in their locality (see attachment), the
teacher will show several images either through a PPT presentation or printed copy of
photographed local organisms to the class for them to develop ideas on what is a/an
species/organism, with the help of the star organizer below, posted on the board

Species

The teacher may ask the following key questions: What is a species? Why do species
become endangered? Are species economically important? Why?

C. EXPLORE: Activity 1 (Session 1)

The class will form triad, each team will move out the classroom to observe
the assigned area to them.
If there is no available area suited for the activity, the teacher may take a
local video of a site where several species are observable.
The teacher will monitor the class while doing their outdoor activity.
With their record note, they will list down the name of at least five living
organisms and describe their observable characteristics.

Activity 2 (Session 1)
The student will make any of the following to illustrate an organism:
poster, poem, song, and or slogan individually in a short bond paper based on
the observed characteristics of organisms in Activity 1.

Activity 3 (Session 2-3)

With a partner, the students will make a research of endangered and
economically important species in the Philippines.
1. What is an endangered species?
2. Where can you find the listed endangered species? Are there any species
present in your locality?
3. Why are they endangered?
4. Give names of species known in your locality.
D. EXPLAIN:
Activity 1-4 (Session 1- 3)
Each team representative presents the activity output to the class.
The teacher processes the activity output.

E. ELABORATE
The teacher emphasizes that aside from the endangered and economically
important species in the Philippines, there are also lots of endangered and
economically important species in the world and cites examples of those species.

F. EXTEND
The teacher emphasizes that aside from the endangered and economically important
species in the Philippines, there are also lots of endangered and economically important
species in the world and cites examples of those species.
G. EVALUATE Conduct an assessment in class using the following questions:
1. How will you describe a species?
2. Describe a situation that shows group of species that are being:
a. Endangered
b. Critically endangered
c. Extinct d. Endemic
V. REMARKS This lesson will continue on June 14, 2023.
