3
The New York - Connecticut Interconnect

4 million gallons/day is transferred from Connecticut to New

York at this major Interconnect located in Greenwich, CT. This flow
was being measured by a Turbine meter.
Due to some recent water loss in the
area, Aquarion suspected that the
Turbine meter was reading lower than
expectations.

Aquarion determined that the Turbine

meter needed to be replaced and was in
search for a possible solution.

Replacement Options

Reliable Replacement Choices are:

Turbine Meters
• Results in Pressure Loss
• Needs Periodic Recalibration
• Does not have a low flow capability as low as 0.3 feet/second
• Intrusive to the Pipe

Electromagnetic flowmeter
• In Large Sizes ( above 12 inch), a Crane and Crew is required for Installation
• Does not have a low flow capability as low as 0.3 feet/second
• Using a reducer to compensate for low flow results in pressure los
• Intrusive to the Pipe
Pipe Parameters
Ultrasonic Meter Outer diameter 17.400”

Verified Using Sound Speed Diagnostic

“The K Transducers are low frequency and deliver a strong signal

through the Ductile iron. The FLEXIM meter can measure low
velocity flow rates as low as 0.03 feet/second which is 10 times lower
than the electromagnetic flow meter.”
