The south eastern part of Bohol hosts all rock types - igneous,
sedimentary, and metamorphic (Table 1). The oldest rocks were formed
during the Cretaceous (145 to 65 million years ago, mya), while the youngest
rocks were formed during the Pliocene (5 to 2.5 mya). Geologists study rocks,
investigate the relationships between different rock types, and determine the
ages of the rocks to establish the geologic history of a certain area.
By now, you should be able to classify rocks into igneous (LAS 8a, 8b),
sedimentary (LAS 9a,9b), and metamorphic rocks (LAS 10a,10b). Use your rock
classification skills to work on this performance task.
Instructions:
1. Read the “Rock Description” column in Table 1. List the rock names that
you can identify (Use LAS 8-10 as reference). Classify each rock as to
whether it is igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic.
Igneous rocks (at least 4), Sedimentary rocks (at least 5), Metamorphic
rocks (at least 1). Summarize your rock classification in a table format
(10 pts). For example:
2. Based on your rock classification, color the lithologic map (map showing
the major rock types) of south eastern Bohol. Suggested color schemes
(if the color is not available, use alternatives but have a legend): (5 pts)
Igneous rocks: either violet or dark pink
Sedimentary rocks: either yellow or yellow orange
Metamorphic rocks: green
3. Based on the lithologic map, which rock type is the most common in
southeast Bohol- igneous, sedimentary, or metamorphic rock? (2 pts)
