Zero Conditional

If/when + Present Simple,


Present Simple

to talk about things that are


generally TRUE, especially for laws First Conditional
and rules

Examples:
1. If I drink too much coffee, I can't sleep If/When
at night.
2. Ice melts if you heat it. (no comma)
3. When the sun goes down, it gets dark.
to talk about future situations we
believe are real or possible
Second Conditional
Examples:
1. If it doesn't rain tomorrow, we'll go to
the beach.
2. Arsenal will be top of the league if
they win. (no comma)
3. When I finish work, I'll call you.
to imagine about future situation that
are impossible or unlikely in reality
Third Conditional
Example:
1. If we had a garden, we could have a
cat.
2. If I won a lot of money, I'd buy a big
house in the country.
3. I wouldn't worry if I were you. (no
comma) to imagine a different past situation
and different results.

Mixed Conditional Examples:


1. If I had understood the instructions
properly, I would have passed the
exam.
2. We wouldn't have got lost if my phone
hadn't run out of battery. (no comma)

I wouldn't be with my current partner.
