Does ill health start with the mind?

We’ve heard adults say “You’re so young, why are you sad? As long as you aren’t sick it isn’t a problem.”

Ill health in short is sick. A person having many health issues like Headache, High Blood Pressure,
Diabetes, Depression, etc can be said to have an ill health. These all are commonly observed diseases
with many people around us.

What does my mind have to do with my body? How do we think? Through our nervous system. Now our
nervous system is the one that transmits signals between the brain and the rest of the body, including
internal organs. In this way, the nervous system's activity controls the ability to move, breathe, see,
think, and more.

Your mental health plays a huge role in your general well-being. Being in a good mental state can keep
you healthy and help prevent serious health conditions. A study found that positive psychological well-
being can reduce the risks of heart attacks and strokes.

“Negative attitudes and feelings of helplessness and hopelessness can create chronic stress, which
upsets the body’s hormone balances, depletes the brain chemicals required for happiness, and damages
the immune system.”

Stress affects how our body functions, having negative attitudes, and the lack of happy hormones or
what we call serotonin greatly impacts regulating body temperature, sleep, sexual behavior and hunger.
Lack of enough serotonin is thought to play a role in depression, anxiety, mania and other health
conditions

“A depressed mood doesn’t usually create problems. But when negative feelings turn into prolonged
anxiety, depression or irritability, they can impact your health.”

If we think positively and think of ourselves we can keep the stress, and a lot of health conditions away.

Studies have found many health problems related to stress. Stress seems to worsen or increase the risk
of conditions like obesity, heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, depression, gastrointestinal
problems, and asthma.

When we put off taking care of ourselves because of a poor mind set, we would never realize how much
we’ve suffered physically because of the mental burden we are carrying, thus that mental burden
becomes a physical burden.
