Written Tests Oral Interview
10 December 2022, Saturday | 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM 10 December 2022, Saturday | 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

1. The selection process goes through three (3) major phases:

a. Written Tests

Coverage of Tests:

▪ Buhi Then and Now – 50 points (1 point each)


▪ News and Current Events (national and international news from January to December 2022) – 10 items
(2 points each)
▪ Trivia Questions and General Information – 10 items (3 points each)
▪ Total of 100 points

Types of Test: Multiple Choice, Identification, True of False, Matching Type and Fill-in-the-Blank

▪ This is 30% of an overall grade.

b. Essay Writing

▪ The Selection Committee will only provide long coupon bond to the contestants. Contestants must bring
black ballpen.
▪ The theme will be given on the actual writing session itself.
▪ All essays must be written in the English language with an observed length of 300 to 500 words.
▪ All contestants will be given one (1) hour to write their essay.
▪ The essay will be judged based on the seven (7) criteria outlined below.
• Focus: An excellent essay provides specific and thorough responses to all of the questions and/or
tasks presented. 20 points
• Organization: An excellent essay has an introduction, a body and a conclusion. The organization
includes an excellent thesis and moves the reader through the text. 20 points
• Analysis: In an excellent essay all of the arguments are strong, well detailed and extremely well
supported by convincing and accurate evidence. 20 points
• Conclusions and Recommendations: An excellent essay provides a coherent and comprehensive
summary based on the analysis. All of the solutions to the problems presented are specific and
well thought out. 10 points
• Originality: In an excellent essay, the writer proposes and develops creative ideas, through the
selection of cases and/or examples, to present novel analysis and alternatives throughout the
entire essay. 10 points
• Voice: An excellent essay fully captures the reader's attention. The flow of the essay keeps the
reader engaged throughout the entire text. 10 points
• Style and Mechanics: An excellent essay uses standard writing conventions correctly, e.g.
grammar, spelling, and punctuation, with no errors. There are no errors in word choice and all
sentences are well constructed. 10 points
• Total of 100 points

▪ This is 20% of an overall grade.

c. Oral Interview

▪ Each examinee participates in a private 7-minute press conference-style interview with a panel of judges.
There is a panel of five judges. Examinees are questioned on their background as presented on their fact
sheet, their educational and career goals, their opinions on current events, social issues, and their
interests, hobbies and extracurricular activities.
▪ Scoring is based on communication skills, including personality, intelligence, validated opinions,
emotional control, overall first impression and personal appearance.
▪ This is 50% of an overall grade.
