Emergency Sub Plans:

Periods 1,2,3,4,5,7
Divide into teams of 2-4 people.
Have one person from your team go select a random item from the prop closet (cannot be a
weapon or anything dangerous like a power tool)
Bring it back to the group. This is now the object that you’ll need to create a 1 minute long
commercial for.

Steps:
Think of examples of at least 4 commercials that your group agrees are powerful. Write down
(either as a group or individually) why these commercials work. What do you like about that?
What convinces you to buy the product.

Using the examples as a guide, write your own script (what you will say and do) for the object
you picked. This commercial should make us excited to buy your product!

Rehearse your commercial so that everyone knows what they are doing. Not everyone has to
act in the commercial, but everyone must be participating.

If time: Perform commercials for the rest of class. Have class give feedback in the following way:

What did you like best about this commercial?

Would you buy this product?

What else could the team have done to convince you to buy this product?

Period 4: Tech (Time- 2 block periods)

Have students think of their favorite movie and one particular location in that movie (Example:
main character’s house, the castle, etc).

Either individually or in groups of up to 4, have students create a visual re-design of that


location. They can draw, create photo collage, build something etc. This representation should
be detailed.

Share the redesigns.


Ask- what does this redesign does that the original concept doesn’t. How does your design
improve upon the original? Why were you drawn to this particular location/point of time in the
movie?
