Name: Carla Mae Lupango Baylon

She graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Secondary Education Major

in Filipino, Class 2018 in Bicol University. She took the Licensure
Examination for Professional Teachers last September 2018 and passed
the same year. She applied to DepEd and started teaching last August
2019. Currently, a Grade 10 adviser and handling Filipino subjects at
Jamorawon National High School.

The practices that she had employed before the pandemic regarding implementing the
learner-centered principles were as follows:
• Giving learner-centered performance activities such as role-playing, which she, as a teacher
only acts as a facilitator.

• Giving recitations and open-ended questions wherein everyone could participate and
answer.

• Provide the learners different activities which is an opportunity for practice and repetition
for retention.

• Giving feedback on the spot.

During the Pandemic

• Their school adapts the Modular Type of Distance Learning, in which differentiated
instruction is essential such as reflections, journals, literary composition and so much more.

• Creating learning activity sheets that are convenient for the learners to answers wherever
they are.

Analysis

In the said interview, we can vividly notice the differences in the practices of implementing
learner-centered principles. Before the pandemic, teachers could assess the day-to-day
learning development of the learners. Since it was face to face class, it was easy to determine
the learning capabilities and identify the necessities of each student. Principally, teachers
make learners more active and productive by applying different methodologies in teaching
such as role-playing and numerous collaborative activities. While during the pandemic where
the school adapts the Modular Type of Distance Learning, the learning process becomes more
difficult. It had been so hard on the part of the teachers for they cannot assess the
development in learnings of every learner and guide them properly on how to do such
activities. Teachers are more on giving written activities. With the new normal in the
educational system, students study and learn either from themselves or with the help of their
families.
