MASTER’S DEGEREE STUDY PLAN

I would like to present my gratitude for being provided an opportunity to

describe my career history and future objectives. Needless to say, we live in a
world where technology has become a necessity to live life with ease and to
make technology dig deep down into usefulness is a constant aim to pursue
for computer science – like me. It would not be wrong to say that much of the
progress and development are due to rapid advances in the field of Computer
Science and Information Technology. Since the invention of computers,
incessant efforts have been made in order to make computers learn and
acquire intelligence. If we can program a computer to learn – that is, to
improve its performance through experience, we can achieve computers to
outperform its very creator: the human himself, in many aspects. This has
fascinated me to take the very field of Computer science and Technology as
my career.
Starting from my young age, I started going to my father's Multimedia
entertainment store. I found it amazing how you can store a two-hour movie
or a song on a shiny piece of plastic – CDs, DVDs, and today we’ve got
Blue-Ray which can store six times a DVD. However, it was when I got into
high school, I understand to some depth that; a two-hour movie can even be
compressed to be delivered over the Web, and data written to an optical disc
like software program, is represented by 0s and 1s – Machine Language.
It was with this perspective I joined a one-year IT vocational training and it
furthered my interest and enthusiasm in computing. My most exciting module
was ‘Programs Design'; logic, solving problems step-by-step – the algorithms.
And this led me to study Computer Science and Technology at degree level.
My main areas of interest are algorithms design & analysis, and
computational complexity. My theoretical computer science classes have
given me a good basic knowledge of: algorithms, data structures,
computational complexity and computational models like Deterministic
Turing machines.
Since my passion is research, the prospect of studying Bachelors degree in
Computer Science and Technology at Beibu Gulf University is highly
exciting. The university’s comfortable environment for learning, high
standards, exceptional achievements in cutting-edge research emphasize my
desires to study there. Additionally, I’m keen to explore Chinese culture and
its stunning nature. I'd be proud to do research in your renowned Institute of
Computer Science and contribute to its highly ranked research. I feel my
studies would be fulfilling under your esteem university guidance and
supervision. In studying this course, I hope to obtain groundbreaking
knowledge of theoretical Computer Science and Technology. I hope to put
my knowledge into practice and work as a researcher in a higher education
institution gaining indispensable experience before applying for a doctorate
degree.
In preparation for such a career, I’ve gained experience of working in a team.
A dozen of my class projects were group-based. So, my ultimate goal is to
give back to the society by making a significant contribution to development
of the economy, education through research. With relative to developing
countries, Scientific Publication from Ghana is lower than one percent.
Ghana is a beautiful country with many natural resources but has low
percentage of researchers .This is heavily due to shortage of well-trained
researchers, economic problems, e.t.c. Egypt and South Africa are the leading
research countries in Africa. But I learned from the life of John Nash (Game
theory): one can make a profound achievement even at difficult times, as he
lived a significant portion of his life with schizophrenia but didn’t lose fervor
for research. That’s worthy to be emulated like CD Burner copies a two-hour
movie from master to a blank new one.
I would like to end by saying that I am fully aware that a career in research
and academics requires a high level of intelligence, unwavering dedication
and a lot of sacrifice. I am confident that I would meet all the above demands,
and, if given the admission, would prove my mettle in being the best
researcher and inventor in the field of Computer Science and Technology.
Hence, I appeal to the Graduate Admissions Committee to consider me for
admission.
