CHAPTER 1

INTRODUCTION

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Our country was hit by a virus called COVID-19

(Coronavirus disease 2019) that came to our neighboring country

that spread around the world and cause pandemic. These forces

the government to stopped schools having classes. In the past 2

years researcher spend their time developing a vaccine that could

protect everyone in having COVID-19 and they develop a primary

vaccine that could only protect us for the mean time. As the time

comes the COVID-19 change over time most changes have a little

to no impact on the virus’ properties. However, some changes may

affect the virus properties, such as how it easily spreads that is

dangerous to all the people especially to the students that has

weak immune system. When the researcher find out about the

changes of the virus they develop an additional dose called Booster

Shot that has a potential to extend the protection provided by the

primary vaccine.

A COVID Booster shot is an additional dose or doses of a

vaccine given after the primary protection. The protection provided


by the primary shot is decreasing over time. These extra doses

known as booster shot because they boost your immune system

after your initial protection several studies showed that getting a

booster dose improves your protection against COVID-19 and

preventing from severe disease that administered to people with

moderately to severely compromised immune system.

The updated booster, also known as Bivalent boosters,

target the most recent subvariants, known as BA.4 and BA.5, that

spread more quickly and are more likely to be able to evade

antibodies made against earlier subvariants. Updated booster can

help restore protection that has decreased since previous

vaccination and provide broader protection against the newer

variants. The changes of the variants risking the life of each person

that have weak immune system after having the primary vaccine,

booster shot is recommended to make a wide protection that will

protect against serious illness or death from COVID-19.

The booster shot has many side effects that is common to

COVID-19 because the shot is spreading throughout our body the

antibodies made by the shot is slowly spreading and cause some

effects that is like having a COVID-19, However this side effects is

for the mean time after the spreading of antibodies from the
booster shot the effects will be gone. The effect of the booster shot

is making the people anxious and afraid of having it that’s why the

government is having a problems on to encourage people usually

the students who took face to face classes in the new normal, due

to the spread of effects of COVID booster shot all over the NEWS

people are gossiping and do not understand what does the booster

shot is carrying that brings to our body.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The people are aware of this uncertainly about what is the

effect of the BOOSTER SHOT to people for them and therefore they

are showing anxious and strong desire for their protection in their

lives and health. The desire of a strong protection is sought to be

satisfied by taking all the precautions. Despite of all the

precautions to prevent from being infected they’re focusing on the

gossip and fake news that is spreading through online that is

based only from what they saw. Instead on studying why there are

these effect that is common to the disease (COVID-19).


The main purpose of knowing the perception of grade12

HUMSS students of SJACS (San Jacinto Catholic School) about

having booster shot was to know why they are afraid to get

vaccinated with a booster shot.

Specifically, the students caught to answer the ff. Questions;

1. What is the grade12 HUMSS student’s actions in these

significant effects in having a booster shot?

2. What will be the possible effect of Grade 12 HUMSS student’s

perception of having booster shot for a broader protection?

3. What knowledge should the grade 12 HUMSS student must

know about booster shot?

4. What would be the best way to encourage them to get their

booster shot?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study aims the perception of the Grade 12 HUMSS

students of SJACS (San Jacinto Catholic School) about having a

booster shot that could help their selves to have a broader

protection for the COVID-19. However, this study is focusing in

their health and safety to our school to avoid serious illness that

could cause absences in our school.

This Research is significant to the following;


Students. This study will be a guide for the students to know more

about COVID-19 booster shot.

Professors/Teachers. The study’s finding will enlighten them to

produce new technique that deals with the perception of students

in having booster shot, moreover the result could be a reminder for

being responsible to prevent diseases and convince them to take a

reliable safeguard that will protect anyone.

Government. The result of this study will be a guide to the

officials to assist every student to a better and reliable protection

that could benefit their health protection due to the perception of

having a booster shot. The government obligations is to prevent the

citizen for having a disease and to understand their thoughts and

answer their question to stop spreading of fake news, and achieve

that completely if they know what the students thoughts and their

desires.

Health Professionals. This research will bring an innovative idea

to come up with a strategy to convince citizen to rely on their

remedy and to make a persuasive explanation why they should rely


on their medicine. Lastly to produce more medicine that could

lessened the hesitation.

SCOPE OF DELIMITATIONS

The scope of our study is for finding the perception of the

grade 12 HUMSS students on having a booster shot.

The study is delimited only for grade 12 HUMSS students in

San Jacinto Catholic Schools Inc., the main purpose of this study

is to point the perspective of students towards booster shot to their

body. The study only focuses on booster shots and to the

perception of grade 12 HUMSS students. However, the study

excludes the effects of the booster shot to their society.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

To facilitate the understanding of this study, different terms

are defined herein

 Booster shot. an additional dose of a

vaccine given after the protection


 Bivalent Booster. A vaccine that works

by stimulating an immune

response against two different

antigens, such as two different

viruses.

 Covid-19. is an infectious disease caused

by SARS-CoV-2 virus.
