2.3 Analyzing a Speech

When I saw the title, my attention was caught and I feel like I want to know about how the
“XXX has got to go” goes and I want to know the details.I can feel that that speaker is also shocked
about it and that he wanted to share it.The speaker would want us to support him or the protest
against the XXX store.Also,as he mentioned his parents,he really put a conviction to how the things
go and it appeals as a big deal as his parents are involved.

Proceeding to the following lines, I was starting to get hesitant about whether the speaker’s
parents were a protester with a good cause or not but given the fact that his parents are protesters
for years and are retired teachers so they must be rational people.I can say that his parents have
good agendas because of the said backgrounds and also the purpose of their protest.Also,if I were to
be asked,I can also say that XXX store should not be erected in such a place.His parents might be just
concerned citizens.

The speaker stated the effects of having XXX store in the place. He claimed that the number
of crimes in their place went up just as when the store was opened. The speaker even compared it
to the other town where the number of crimes did not increase just as when their XXX store was
closed for good. I don’t think that it’s a strong evidence. It may be coincidence.Besides,the only
crime that can be associated to XXX is rape or any sexual harassment or abuses. The speaker did not
mention that the store was directly the cause of the uprising number of crimes, it only said that
when the store emerged the crimes went up. However, I do agree that the store will add on to the
number of plastic wrappers that will end up in the streets or in the oceans.

One thing that I would disagree from the speaker is his unnecessary concern on how the
store will force people to work specially on Sundays. This argument of the speaker is, for me, none of
his business and should not be included. For all he knows, People may be happy to know that they
have a job to help them make their ends.

In summary, I do support his cause for his protest. I also do think that having adult movies store will
entice minors to see something that is still not appropriate to their age. However, I just feel like he
could have presented a much more strong claims supported with strong evidence.But knowing that
the speaker is at the young age and not really knowledgeable about the said protest so he is still in
good consideration.
