of giving an opinion towards a thing. Speech has its own format. Here is the format
speech.
1. Opening
Opening is an introduction of speech. Here is the example of opening in speech.

Assalamualaikum Wr. Wb.

Honorable ones; the juries, the participant of creative English speech contest and all
audiences.

Before I begin to deliver this speech, I would like to invite you to thank to Allah the
Almighty, who has given us Mercy and Blessing, so we can meet together in this blessing
place. And also let’s deliver Sholawat and Salam to our prophet Muhammad SAW, who has
brought us from the darkness to the brightness.
Ladies and gentleman

To celebrate an annual event to Earth Day on April 22, today I would like to deliver
a speech about “Our Environment”.

2. Body of speech
Body of speech is the content of speech. The writer usually puts his/her argument
to the body of speech. Here is the example of body of speech.

Realize it or not, we live in this world depends on the enviroment, we drink water
from our environment, we breath air from our environment, and we eat foods which are
planted from our environment. Our environment has a great influence in our live. Our
environment gives us life. Good or bad condition of our environment will definitely affecct
our live even our existence. Our environment is our life.

Let’s close our eyes and remember few years back. Few years ago, there were many
green trees arround us but now, those green trees are gone and replaced with grey stiff
buildings. Few years ago, we could still breath deeper to fill our lung with fresh air of
oxygen but now that refreshing oxygen was gone and replaced with thick carbon monoxide.
Few years ago, we could still look at our reflections on the river because of the clear water
but now, those reflection was gone and replaced with pale face of trash.

Grey stiff building that we see, carbon monoxide that we breath, and polluted water
that we drink become our daily menu right now. Do we just stay still and enjoy those bitter
menu everyday? Or we can do something small hoping to see green trees, breath fresh
oxygen, and drink clear water once more.

Ladies and Gentleman

Small action such as planting some trees, put trash in the right place, save electricity
and reduce the usage of motor vehicle will save our environment from destruction. If those
small action are done by people in this world, it will create an opportunity to restore our
environment from destruction once more.

The future condition of our environment depens on us. We who live now have a big
responsibility to restore our environment so in the future we can still live a better life.
Remember my friends, our environment is our life. If i tis destroyed, our life will be
destroyed too. Treat it well and it will treat us well.
3. Closing
Closing is the conclusion and hope made by the writer to the listener. Here is the
example of the closing in speech.

That is all my speech. I hope my brief speech about the environment will be useful
for us. And also I would like to say sorry for all of my mistakes. Thank you very much for
your attention.

Wassalamualaikum wr. Wb.

Hello, May I Help You?

Conversation by phone
Hello, May I Help You?
Formal Invitation

A. Conversation by Phone
As well as speaking clearly when talking on the phone, it is vital to use the right level
of formality. If you are too formal, people might find it difficult to feel comfortable when
talking to you.
Generally speaking, when you are calling in a business context (making calls related
to employment, finances, law, health, or applications of any sort), you should show
politeness to make a request by using the following words.
- Could
- Would
- Can
- May

When you ask for something, or receive hel[ or information, you should use the
following words.

- Please
- Thank you
- Thank you very much

It is also okay to use some of the informal features of the English such as short forms,
phrasal, verbs, and words like okay and bye – in other words, everyday English! Below
the example phrase.

- “I’m off to a conference, okay, bye”!

- “Hang on a moment, I’ll put you through”

Are perfectly acceptable, as long as the overall tone of your voice is polite and
friendly.
If i tis more of an informal phone conversation (speaking to a friend, family
member, close work colleague or even a friend of a friend), then a high level of formality
is usually not required, but you should still speak with a polite manner, as it is seen as
respectful.

Task 1

Ana : “Have you turn on the TV? The reporter is interviewing Mr. Hadi, our

B. Formal Invitation
Invitation is a text that serves the purpose of inviting someone to attend the meeting
or event. Invitation is divided into two, informal and formal.
Formal invitation is used to invite someone to attend formal meeting. Here are ways
to write a formal invitation
1. Write out dates. Regardless of the type of event you’re inviting your guests to, you
should use a formal writing style on a formal invitation. This means spelling out
dates and other words that are usually abbreviated.
For example, you should write “Saturday, the nineteenth of November” instead of
“Saturday, November 19th.”
2. Write out guests’ full names. Don’t use the shortened versions of guests’ names.
Write “Stephani Smith” instead of “Steph Smith” and always use last names.
3. Include the hosts. One of the most important parts of the formal invitation is the
inclusion of the event’s host(s). Listing the hosts tells your guests who is inviting
them to the event. How you write the host’s names and the order in which you
should list the varies depending on who is hosting. These rules are particularly
important if you are writing a formal wedding invitation.

For example, you should start a dinner invitation by saying “Sam and Ellen Smith
invite you to a dinner celebrating the graduation of their daughter Leslie from graduate
school.”

November 22, 2017

Dear Shreyas,
How are you? I hope you are doing fine, here mother and father are also doing
well. It’s been a while since we got in touch so i finally decided to write you a letter.
You seem to be having such a great time in your new college and city that you chose
to stay back in college even during vaccations.
Yesterday father paid your credit card bill, he didn’t say a word but i could
sense how disappointed he was! Not like an elder sister but a friend i would advise you
to check on your expenses. I understand the enthusiasm of being all by oneself in a
new city, the fun in roaming arround with friend as i have been there and done that. It
is good to step out in the world and live to the fullest but at the same time, we have to
be judicious.
Parent are willingly paying for all the expenses as they don’t want you to lose
any opportunity and experience but it is you who should be taking care of how wisely
the money is used. Try to be holistic in approach and define your priorities. Chalk out
a list of your daily expenses and strike out all the unnecessary once, try to stick by the-
list for a week or so gradually you will be able to cut down the extras.
As they say “a penny saved is a penny earned” therefore, handle the money
given to you with maturity and yet continue to live life king size as the best thing in life
are free. At the end, I would like to wish you all the luck with your studies and other
endeavours. We all miss you badly so try to come as we all can’t wait to see you.

Yours Loving,
Shreya.
