Those pipes are a really nice touch.
To keep the heat away from the

The teardown process was done
carefully. They inspected parts
for breakage or signs of unskilled

grew, eventually, Gerald got to the point
that he could move forward.
Once he removed all the pieces that
he decided to change he was left with
the front loop of the frame and a motor.
Having a cache of Triumph parts ‘under

that and some more properly chosen
aftermarket parts, and he’d be in
business.

this would mark my 9th thousand

California to see if they would possibly have
any Springers lying around that would be
the catalyst for his build. There was no time
to waste, and the front end would need to be
a la carte if the timeline was to stay true. As
luck would have it, Mick had recently torn
down a build for paint and chrome leaving
only the front end available. Realizing the
time crunch that Clinton was in they were
willing to ship him the Springer and make a
new one for their own build. The only catch
being Clinton had never imagined building a
bike with a forty over front end.
The next couple of days were spent
weighing options and deciding if this was the
direction he wanted to take the build. He had
always planned on building a long bike, but
this was way past anything he had built
before. Lucky for him Bobbi, his wife, gave
him the push he needed to move forward
and a deal was struck. Every dimension of
the front end was given to Clinton by Mick,
and all his faith then rested in geometry in
order to keep moving. Only two weeks after
talking to Michael Lichter and agreeing to
start this build, the cutting began.
With a donor frame he already had on
hand, he borrowed a frame jig from a close
friend and began the process of stretching
and welding. Only eighteen inches longer

he had a pretty decent grasp on what forty

unpacked that massive box that arrived
from California he stood next to a chrome
giant towering two feet above his head and
realized…this bike was going to be a game
changer.
A friend donated the 1952 Panhead motor
on a handshake with the understanding
that they would settle up after the build. It
was a basic shell containing all the wrong
parts, but it allowed the build to move
forward. Clinton rebuilt the trains installing
a shorter main shaft to make it all work

As for how she creates her art, she

uses a few different things. For her
work on canvas, she has recently been
painting with acrylic on linen. Her
choice of acrylic is due to the bright, bold
colors it creates, which is something she
strives for in her work. For helmets and
tanks, she uses one shot enamel paint

For Jet, her biggest inspiration is
seeing and experiencing other people’s

the enjoyment, freedom, and openness of
the motorcycle community is incredible.
“I’m a real fan of people celebrating

It is abundantly clear to most, if not

her joy to be a part of that. For her,
motorbikes are art pieces in themselves,
so it is her personal honor to be able to

Another interest of hers is retro and

scenery twiddling his thumbs before
he’s ready to kill himself? Sorry, but
the newness of this eventually wears
off. If a person’s natural social skills are
good, this problem is easily abated, for
all drifters must learn to make friends
quickly. But what about the rest of us?
At one point I’d found myself so lonely I’d
start talking to folks as if I already knew
them. This brought very good results
and still does. To date, all drifters I’ve
known have been absolutely forced to
improve social skills to the best of their
ability. This was a hard lesson for which
I now enjoy great reward.
Panhead Billy makes a continual
habit of visiting events, at social
gatherings people are no longer in work
mode. They’ve come to let their hair
down, make new friends, and possibly

to work very well, though I don’t care to

attend as many events as he.
To emphasize my last three points:
Try being truly homeless, dirty, and
friendless in multiple towns across
the country and see how long you can
tolerate such existence.
Daily Routine is another concern. I’ve
seen this many times. A traveler has
ours/days/weeks/months/years to

enter a new town, sit around bored a

few days, then say, “Nothing going on
here. Let’s go to the next town.” Same
shit. So he rides to the next, and the

idleness is another serious killer. In

routine that works for them. Billy and I

have come into a town, found a place to
make camp, then he splits and I don’t
see him again till evening. He’s doing
his usual stuff, as am I. Billy’s routine
would never work for me, nor mine for
you. This is an individual endeavor one

tend to wake up late, drink coffee, read
something, grab the computer and do
some writing, quit at noon or 2:00, hit
a gym, then set out to socialize usually
not returning home until late. I’ll check

or any other gathering are fair game
as well. Usually, within a week folks
begin to know me by name. Being an
interesting anomaly for living on your
motorcycle, people often invite you to
their home, bar, or any other social
endeavor.
I also had to learn to slow down, be
patient and simply let things happen.
It’s been my experience that, If one
moves to fast he will inevitably outrun
his adventure. This business of slowing
down seems a natural evolution after
some time of mostly stress-free living.
Think about it. If you could go to any
town, have a good home, bathroom,
social life, and working daily routine to
occupy your time, think you’d ever want
to go back?
Although, like learning any new
profession, the intricacies of road life
may seem insurmountable, keep in
mind that all who live permanently out
here are just basic idiots like yourself.
Hope to see you on the road someday.

But just outside of the Sturgis city

The Buffalo Chip is home to The
Best Party Anywhere™ and is a
yearly pilgrimage for a lot of people
to enjoy concerts, bike shows, and at
times, a tinge of good ole American
adult debauchery. In 2017 however,
management decided to host a
round of the American Flat Track
series after dabbling in the counter-
culture Hooligan series. I had my
doubts going to the race in 2017.
Flat track is important to me. It’s the
sole reason I work in the motorcycle
industry. It’s given me my greatest
triumphs and harshest defeats. I’ve
seen the sport take the lives and
limbs of some of my closest friends,
so in my more serious view of the
sport, I was afraid things would turn
out to be a joke. I’ve never been more
wrong.

Buffalo Chip. You could be one of
many of the thousands of campers
there. Maybe you were having a few
cocktails at Bikini Beach, and you
wanted to stumble over to the zip
line for a peek of the amphitheater.
Maybe you needed a brisket
sandwich from the vendors over that
way. You make tracks to the land

In 2017 we saw Briar Bauman
break a lot of hearts by taking the
race win on his Zanotti Racing

doesn’t understand why Jeremy

the racetrack is set in the middle of

it) you can still take a trip on the zip
