Central Angle: The degree measure of the central angle is equal to the measure of the intercepted arc.

Arc Addition Postulate: The measure of non-overlapping (no common interior points) adjacent arcs is
equal to the sum of each arc.

Theorems on Chords, Arcs and Central Angle

In a circle or in congruent circles:

Theorem 1: Two minor arcs are congruent if and only if their corresponding central angles are
congruent.

Theorem 2: Two minor arcs are congruent if and only if their corresponding chords are congruent.
Theorem 3: A diameter bisects a chord and an arc with the same endpoints if and only if it is
perpendicular to the chord.

Theorems on Inscribed Angle

Theorem 4: If an angle is inscribed angle in a circle, then the measure of the angle equals one-half the
measure of its intercepted arc (or the measure of the intercepted arc is twice the measure of inscribed
angle).

Theorem 5: If two inscribed angles of a circle (or congruent circles) intercept congruent arc, then the q
angles are congruent.

Theorem 6: If an inscribed angle of a circle intercepts semicircle, then the angle is a right angle.

Theorem 7: If a quadrilateral is inscribed in a circle, then its opposite angles are supplementary.

Theorems on Tangent Line

1. If a line is tangent to a circle, then it is perpendicular to the radius drawn to the point of tangency.

2. If a line is perpendicular to a radius of a circle and its endpoint that is on the circle, then the line is
tangent to the circle.

3. If two segments from the same exterior point are tangent to a circle, then the two segments are
congruent.

Theorems on Angles Formed by Tangents and Secants

1. When a tangent and a secant, two secants, or two tangents intersect outside a circle then the
measure of the angle formed is one-half the positive difference of the measures of the
intercepted arcs
2. If two secants intersect in the interior of a circle, then the measure of an angle formed is one-
half the sum of the measures if the arcs intercepted by the angle and its vertical angle.
3. If a secant and a tangent intersect at the point of tangency, then the measure of each angle
formed is one-half the measure of its intercepted arc.
Theorem 1: Theorem on Two Intersecting Chords

The product of the measures of the segments of one chord is equal to the product of the measure of the
segments of the other chord. 𝑆𝐴 ∙ 𝑁𝐴 = 𝐷𝐴 ∙ 𝐿𝐴.

Theorem 2: Theorem on Secant Segment and External Secant Segment

The product of the lengths of one secant segment and its external secant segment is equal to the
product of the lengths of the other secant segment and its external secant segment. 𝐴𝑅 ∙ 𝐼𝑅 = 𝑁𝑅 ∙ 𝐸𝑅

Theorem 3: Theorem on Tangent Segment and Secant Segment

The square of the length of the tangent segment is equal to the product of the lengths of the secant
segment and its external secant segment. (𝐶𝑂) 2 = 𝑌𝑂 ∙ 𝑁𝑂
