and Secants
Theorem 1.
If two tangents intersect in the exterior of a circle, then the
measure of the angle formed is one-half the difference of the
measures of the intercepted arcs.

m∠BAE =½ (𝑚EDB −𝑚BE)

Find m∠BAE given that

mEDB=140 and mBE= 30
Theorem 2.
If two secants intersect in the exterior of a circle, then the
measure of the angle formed is one-half the positive
difference of the measures of the intercepted arcs.

m∠XPY =½ (𝑚XY −𝑚MN)

Theorem 2.
If two secants intersect in the exterior of a circle, then the
measure of the angle formed is one-half the positive
difference of the measures of the intercepted arcs.

Find m∠XPY given that

mNX=80°, mMY=100° and
mXY=140°
Theorem 3.
If a secant and a tangent intersect in the exterior of a circle,
then the measure of the angle formed is one-half the
difference of the measures of the intercepted arcs.

m∠NLO =½ (𝑚NMO −𝑚OQ)

Theorem 3.
If a secant and a tangent intersect in the exterior of a circle,
then the measure of the angle formed is one-half the
difference of the measures of the intercepted arcs.

Find m∠NLO given that

mNMO=164° and 𝑚OQ=50°
Theorem 4.
If two secants intersect in the interior of a circle, then the
measure of an angle formed is one-half the sum of the
measures of the arcs intercepted by the angle and its vertical
angle.
m∠1 =½ (𝑚WR + 𝑚XS)

m∠2 =½ (𝑚WX + 𝑚RS)

Theorem 4.
If two secants intersect in the interior of a circle, then the
measure of an angle formed is one-half the sum of the
measures of the arcs intercepted by the angle and its vertical
angle.

Find m∠1 given that

mWR=80° and mXS=70°.
Theorem 5.
If a secant and a tangent intersect at the point of tangency,
then the measure of each angle formed is one-half the
measure of its intercepted arc.

m∠ZYQ =½ mQY

Theorem 5.
If a secant and a tangent intersect at the point of tangency,
then the measure of each angle formed is one-half the
measure of its intercepted arc.
