1 Scope
This g en eric EMC em ission sta nd ard is a p p lica b le only if no releva n t d edicated pro du ct or
pro du ct fa m ily EMC em ission standard has been published.
This part o f IEC 61000 fo r em ission req uirem en ts a pplies to e le c tric a l and e le ctro n ic e quipm ent
intended fo r use at reside n tial (see 3.1.14 ) loca tion s. This part o f IEC 61000 also a pp lie s to
e le ctrica l and e le ctro n ic e qu ip m en t intended fo r use at o th e r loca tion s th a t do not fa ll w ith in the
scope o f IEC 610 00 -6 -8 or IEC 61000-6-4.
The inten tion is th a t all e qu ip m en t used in the re sid e n tia l, com m ercial and lig h t-in d u stria l
enviro n m e nts are covered by IEC 6 10 00 -6 -3 o r IEC 61000-6-8. If there is any d oubt the
requirem ents in IEC 610 00 -6 -3 apply.
The conducted and radiated em ission req uirem en ts in the freq ue n cy range up to 400 G H z are
considered e ssen tial and have been se lected to p rovide an adequate level o f p ro tectio n o f radio
reception in the d efined e le ctro m a g n e tic e nvironm ent. N ot all d istu rb a n ce phenom ena have
been included fo r te sting purposes but only those considered re le va n t fo r the e quipm ent
intended to ope ra te w ithin the locations included w ithin th is docum ent.
The em ission req uirem en ts in this docu m e nt are not intended to be a pp lica ble to the inten tion al
tra n sm issio n s and th e ir harm onics from a rad io tra n s m itte r as d efined by the ITU.

4 Classification of equipment
For e qu ip m en t w ithin the scope o f th is docu m e nt the req uirem en ts o f T able 3 to T able 6 apply.
T hese req uirem en ts are intended to o ffe r a de qu ate p ro tectio n to rad io se rvices w ith in the
reside n tial e nvironm ent.
NOTE Exam ples o f the em ission cla ssifica tio n o f equ ip m e n t and m apping to the im m unity standards is given in
Annex A.
The d e scrip tio n o f the m easurem ent, the m easurem ent instru m e ntatio n, the m easurem ent
m ethods and the m easurem ent set-up to be used are given in the standards, referred to in
T able 3 to Table 6. The co nte nts o f these sta nd ard s are not repeated here, how ever
m od ifica tio ns or a d d itio n a l inform a tion needed fo r the pra ctical a p p lica tio n o f the m easurem ents
are given in th is docum ent.
A ll aspects o f te sting the EUT shall be d efined and docum ented in a te st plan p rior to testing.
This re q uirem en t includes, but is not lim ited to, the fo llo w in g d eta ils: EUT co n fig u ra tio n , EUT
m odes o f ope ra tion , EUT h ighest interna l fre q u e n cy (see T able 2), EUT a rran ge m en t (see Table
1). These d eta ils as a m inim um shall be included in the te st report.
The EUT shall be te ste d in the ope ra ting m ode producing the la rg e st em ission in the freq ue n cy
band being a ssessed, co n siste n t w ith intended use. The co n fig u ra tio n o f the te st sam ple shall
be varied to achieve m axim um em ission c o n siste n t w ith typ ical use and in s ta lla tio n practice.
If the EUT is part o f a system , o r can be co nn ecte d to a ssociated e quipm ent, the EUT shall be
tested w hile connected to the m inim um re p re se n ta tive c o n fig u ra tio n o f a ssociated apparatus
n ecessary to e xercise the ports in a sim ila r m an ne r to th a t described in C ISP R 32. If the EUT
has a large n um ber o f sim ilar ports or ports w ith m any s im ila r co nn ectio ns, a s u ffic ie n t num ber
shall be selected to sim u late actua l ope ra ting c o n d itio n s and to ensure th a t all the d iffe re n t
types o f te rm in a tio n are covered.
In ca ses w here the e quipm ent in stru ctio n s requires e xternal filte rin g , sh ie lding devices or
m easures, these m easures shall be applied during the m easurem ents.
The EUT shall be arranged in a ccorda nce w ith the req uirem en ts o f T able 1.

The m easurem ents shall be ca rried out at one single set o f p aram eters w ith in the operating
ranges o f te m p era ture , h um id ity and a tm o sph e ric p ressure sp ecified fo r the pro du ct and at the
rated supply vo ltag e, unless o the rw ise indicated in the basic standard. The re le va n t co nd itio ns
shall be recorded in the te st report.

d istu rb a n ce s arise w hen devices contain or co ntrol m echanical sw itches th a t co ntrol cu rren t

(such as paper handling devices). The average lim its a pp ly to d istu rb a n ce s from a rcs or
