1. Introduction
In order to ensure uniform quality of valve positioner commissioning from all licensees and improve
spare part compatibility in service this guide should be used whenever a Siemens SIPART PS2
valve positioner is commissioned.
The Siemens SIPART PS2 positioner can be applied to engines in order to ensure safe and reliable
control of valves in EGB, EGR, WHR or SCR systems.
Important! The positioner must be mounted on a stable foundation with minimum vibration,
shielded from heat, with good access and preferably in a position where it is pos-
sible to see the valve it controls, in one of the following ways:
MDT strongly recommends not to use the “Flexible Support” for the Exhaust Gas Receiver as
mounting base for the SIPART.
To ensure correct functionality the positioner (Type 6DR5011-0NG00-0AA0) needs an input of 4-20
mA, an output of 4-20 mA, working air pressure below 8.4 bar.
Valve position feedback is facilitated by the Positioner Feedback Magnet (Type A5E000524070)
and the Positioner Feedback Pickup NCS sensor (Type 6DR4004-8NN40) mounted on a TGX
mounting bracket (Type 16300-149).

5. Trouble Shooting
Below list contains some of the possible problems that may be encountered when working on the
SIPART Positioner.
Disconnect air supply and remove actuator from valve. By use of working air, test whether
or not the actuator is able to operate. If actuator is not operational inspect it according to
instructions given by maker.

Valve is moving freely and in full range when operated without actuator, but is not reaching fully
open or fully closed position when controlled by the actuator.
The end stops may be adjusted incorrectly. See “Maintenance of Exhaust Gas By-pass
Valve, 5265817-2, or instructions given by actuator maker for further instructions.
Valve is moving freely, actuator is operational, SIPART is setup according to above this guide but
the system is still not working properly:
Restore SIPART to factory settings according to below procedure:
Press “Hand” button (see Figure 11) for minimum 5 seconds.
By use of “Hand” go to parameter 50 – “PRST - Preset”.
By use of “+” or “-“ select “ALL”.
Press “+” for min. 5 seconds to start initialization.
SIPART will be brought back to factory settings.
Setup SIPART according to paragraph 4.3.
If SIPART is still not working properly, mount another SIPART. If this solves the problem, please
send the faulty SIPART and a description of what has been experienced to:
