A line reflection: a reflection over a line k (notation rk) is a transformation in which each point

of the original figure (pre-image) has an image that is the same distance from the line of
reflection k as the original point but is on the opposite side of the line. (Image is in the opposite
half-plane to pre-image).

A point reflection: a reflection over a point P (notation rP) is a transformation in which each
point of the original figure (pre-image) has an image that is the same distance from the point of
reflection P as the original point but is on the opposite side of the point. (Image is on the
opposite ray to pre-image)..
Note: Point Reflection is sometimes called Origin Symmetry, because the "Origin" is the central
point about which the shape is symmetrical.

A translation: a translation by a translating vector v (notationt v ) is a transformation in which
each point of the original figure is translated by length of a given vector and in direction of that
vector.
It "slides" an object a fixed distance in a given direction. The original object and its translation
have the same shape and size, and they face in the same direction.

A rotation: A rotation of point through angle φ about the origin O in clockwise
(counterclockwise) direction (notation Rφ , O) is a transformation that turns a figure about a
fixed point called the center of rotation. Rays drawn from the centre of rotation to a point and
its image form an angle called the angle of rotation.
