INTRODUCTION .
TES is a temperal heat storage technology.
Can be used for cooking or heating during charging and
discharging.
In this work TES was developed for cooking.
There is need to carry out test on charging.
My work is to discharge asystem and see effectiveness in heat
retention.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Currently the sizing of the storage tank and the

heating element is still a challenge. There is need
to charge and discharge.

Aims and objectives

Aim
1 To determine heat retention by oil in TES system
Objectives
1 To discharge a system .
2 To calculate the amount of energy available after discharge

LITERATURE REVIEW
OIL
1 Tested and approved , thats why its used.
2 Not toxic
3 Oil having low specific heat capacity
4 Good heat retention.
HEAT TRANSFER
1 Conduction
2 Convection

Insulation, to minimise heat loss by radiation.

METHODOLOGY

Instruments used
1 Thermocouples Data logger, Cooking oil, source of power (A.C), thermal
energy storage tank, Computer system, insulators
2 Thermocouples were put to different parts of the
Using graphs
1 Dicharging graph

RESULTS
Dicharging from 2070 C to 880 C took 1000 minutes which is
good test on heat retention.
Discharging rate was good

DISCUSSION OF RESULTS

Discharging without cooking took 1000minutes (about 13hrs)

to a temperature of 880 c
we used this (880 C ) temperature to cook 1 litre of water to
about 790 c and couldnt reach its boiling point.
Constant-like variation on graph.
