ACTIVITY 1: What is a hero? GIve 5 reasons from your reading. Cite your references
in APA7th edition format. ( 25PTS)
 Heroism is performed in service to others w ithout having biases or prejudice
 I t is engaged in v oluntarily, on w hat a person can do beyond his ability or
giv ing w hat is beyond the required duty in their profession.
 A heroic act is one performed w ith recognition of possible risks and costs, be
they to one’s physical health or personal reputation, in w hich the actor is
w illing to accept anticipated sacrifice.
 I t is performed w ithout external gain anticipated at the time of the act.
 A person w ho is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding
achiev ements, or noble qualities.

ACTIVITY 2: What heroic act have you done for others? (NO REFERENCES ARE NEEDED.
THIS IS YOUR PERSONAL STORY) (15 PTS)

During the pandemic, I w as impregnated by my boyfriend, now my husband. I n

observing my fellow teenage mothers, they tend to leav e their children behind
and still liv e with a “biag balasang”. But as for me, I chose to stop my studies for a
year to focus on my son. I gav e up music, gig ev ery night, I gave up my hobbies in
sports. At first, I w as sad but I made adjustments to fulfil motherhood and my son’s
needs. I am grateful in this Univ ersity because it is online so I can still take care of
my son w hile studying. That I can perform being a student online and at the same
time being a mother. I hav e done good deeds in the past but I think that this act I
hav e done for my son is I think that is a heroic act. Because growing up, I do not
hav e my mother in my back so I know how hard it is. That is w hy I am w illing to
sacrifice my body, my leisure, and ev erything I had, I hav e to leav e behind just so I
can prov ide my son a happy life. Letting him know that as his mother, I w ill alw ays
protect him not to the point that I w ill spoil him but to discipline him and show er him
w ith lov e.
Further, I can say that I am a hero to my son by satisfying the ten major
characteristics of a hero.
1. Courage
I fear that I do not hav e the mother type of skills because I have lived a
comfortable life and my grandmother has raised me to becoming a spoiled
brat. But now , I am eagerly learning and that I do not let my fear take ov er.
Giv en that my family-in-law are good at handling family things, I am trying to be
brav e in this new w orld for my son. As a mother, I am w illing to take the
adjustments, not the other w ay around.
2. Passion
Ev en before, I love kids and nursing them. That is also w hy I chose the BEEd as a
course because of my passion in interacting w ith children and how fascinated I
am around them.
3. I ntegrity
Last year, my husband and I agreed that I w ould stop for a semester if the
Univ ersity will switch to a face-to-face mode of learning I will stop for a w hile. I
agreed to it. But my mother-in-law and sisters-in-law insisted that they w ould be
helping in babysitting. But for me, I prefer to prioritize my son first. Luckily, w e are
still in an online mode that is w hy I do not hav e to undergo a dilemma.
4. Honesty
I can say that I am an honest mother because my personality tow ard my child
w ill remain the same w hoever it is w e are with. I do not w ear to impress just so
that I can be called a good mom.
5. Confidence
By ov ercoming my fears, I gained self-confidence as the time passed by. My
son approaching tw o in the next tw o months and I am comfortable w ith my
parenting.
6. Patience
I admit that I still lack this but I alw ays keep in mind to relax so that I w ill not burst
out and take out my anger tow ard my son.
7. Selflessness
I w ill alw ays choose my child ov er anything. For his benefit and w elfare, I had
and w ill hav e to be there w hen he needs me. My body is w eak and prone to
illnesses but w hich are mild. I can feel aches that are not tolerable but I am still
acting normal sop that I can take care of my son ev en I want to lie dow n.
8. Caring
As a mother, my w ay of care comes w ith teaching and discipline. I am the type
of mother w ho carries her child w hen he needs to. I am the type of mother that
dances him to sleep w hen he is confused and cannot get his sleep that is w hy
he cries. I am not the type of mother w ho w ill let her son adjust and make the
compromise. But I am the type of mother w ho teaches her child to do the littlest
or the simple task a mother know s that her son can do.
9. Humility
I make sure that I can relate to my child. To feel how he feels, to know what he
w ants, and nev er give up on him. I also teach him how to do things step-by-
step and accepting mistakes. Most of all, I respect my son as how I want to be
respected.
10. Supportiv e
When my son is in doubt of himself, I cheer him and then I can see smile and
confidence bloom out.

 Rizal spoke out for injustice w hen others w ere complacent
 He is a Filipino.

 He displayed unconditional lov e for his country.
 He has low temper.
 He had died dramatically.
 He w as a v ery amazing person at his time.
 He w as humble, fighting for reforms through his w ritings instead of through a
rev olution.
 He used his intelligence, talents and skills in a more peaceful w ay rather than
the aggressiv e w ay.
