1.0 Purpose
The purpose of the Safe Work Instruction is to detail measures that reduce the safety and health
risks associated with infectious virus or diseases and measure in protecting the employees from
exposure to, and infection with the infectious virus such as ; Respiratory Viruses, Covid-19, Mers-
Cov, Influenza, and etc. This depend on the type of work being performed and exposure risk,
including the potential for interaction with infectious people and the contamination of the work
environment.
2.0 Scope
Is it applicable for the whole Gagasan Maya’s project site.

3.0 Definitions
➢ Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is clothing or equipment designed to protect
employees from hazards when on a worksite. PPE should only be considered as a last
line of defense between a hazard and the employee.
➢ Hazard
• Is a situation that can cause harm or has potential to harm a person, the environment
or damage to property.
➢ Risk
• Relative exposure to danger – expose to danger, harm, or loss.

4.0 Responsibilities
4.1 Project Manager / Construction Manager
• The Project Manager / Construction Manager shall ensure full compliance of this Safe
Work Instruction and its requirement along with other legal and statutory requirement.
4.2 Site Engineer
• The Site Engineer shall ensure the compliance of the safety and health requirement before
any commencement of work.
• The Site Engineer shall ensure all permit to work is properly filled and approved before
any commencement of work.
• The Site Engineer shall ensure that the assessment of the hazards and its control measure
has been implemented before any commencement of work.
4.3 Site Superintendent / Site Supervisor
• The Site Superintendent / Site Supervisor shall conduct Pre-Task Talk before any
commencement of work by brief all the employees on the hazards, risks and the control
measures on the related activities and ensure it is properly recorded.
• The Site Superintendent / Site Supervisor shall ensure the compliance of the safety and
health requirement before any commencement of work.
4.4 Site Safety Supervisor
• The Site Safety Supervisor to ensure that the provision of the safety and health
requirement is complied with and shall inspect and rectifying any unsafe practice or
condition at site
• To report any incident or issues happened on site to Safety and Health Officer
• To ensure that all employees is complying with the PPE requirement on site
4.5 Employees / Operators
• Employees / Operators shall cooperate with the site superintendent / site supervisor to
ensure compliance and shall not interfere or misuse the safety measure that had been place
on site. To use the PPE provided along the activities period.

5.0 Guideline
5.1 General Guidance to Prevent an Infectious Virus or Diseases
• All employees shall aware on any information passed by the management regarding any
outbreak, or infectious diseases detected near / at workplaces.
• All employees, regardless of the specific exposure risks, it is always good in taking care of
personal hygiene and to practice:
➢ To regularly and thoroughly wash and clean hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or
sanitizer or wash them with soap and water in about 20seconds. This is because by
washing hands regularly or using alcohol-based hand rubs or sanitizer helps in killing
the viruses that may be on hands.
➢ To avoid contact and maintain social distancing at least 3feet or 1metre as if anyone
coughing or sneezing they may spray an amount of small liquid droplet from their
mouth or nose that may contain viruses.
➢ To avoid contact or touching the eyes, mouth and nose as hands touching many
surfaces and may pick up viruses and once contaminated, hands can transfer all these
viruses through eyes, nose or mouth.
➢ In the event of diseases or viruses breakout, a good practice of respiratory hygiene are
essential. All employees are required to practice and follow a good respiratory hygiene
which all employees required to covering nose and mouth with a bent elbow or
covering with tissues whenever sneezing and coughing. The used tissues then shall be
exposed immediately.
• Any employees that having a fever, cough or difficulty in breathing shall seek immediate
medical attention then report to the management.
• Any instruction or direction given by the local health authority shall be follows strictly.
• An appointed representative by management shall get the updated information on the
situation in the working area.

5.2 Reduce Transmission Among Employees


• Any employees that have symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath and fever shall seek
immediate medical attention then notify their work supervisor.
• Sick employees shall stay at home and follows any recommended steps by local health
authority and shall not return to work until the criteria to discontinue home isolation are
met, in consultation with the healthcare providers or local health department.
• Any employees who are well but have a family or relatives that sick with infection to the
diseases or viruses shall notify the management and follow the local health authority
recommended precautions.
5.3 Separate Sick Employees
• Employees who appear to have a symptom upon arrival at work or who are becoming sick
during the day shall be immediately be separated from other employees and sent home.
• The management may use a temperature reading meter to get the employees temperature
before commencement of work or entering the work area. Any employees that exceed the
normal temperature reading shall be sent home.
5.4 Educate Employees on Reducing the Spread of Diseases or Viruses
• Educate employees on taking steps to protect themselves at home and at work.
• Educate employees on what to do if they are sick during the breakout of the diseases or
viruses.
• Educate employees on 20seconds hand wash and usage of at least 60% alcohol hand rub
or sanitizer.
• Educate employees to clean and disinfect the touched objects and surfaces such as
workstation, tools, and etc.
• Educate employees in avoiding sharing or using other employees work stations, equipment,
and etc. If the usage is necessary, clean and disinfect them before and after use.
• Educate employees on social distancing and to practice distancing at least 1metre or 3 feet
and avoid mass gathering or crowded area during the breakout.

5.5 Issuing PPE to Employees


• During the breakout of infectious diseases or viruses the management shall providing a
proper PPE to the employees
• PPE will be issued to all employees and visitors to the site:
➢ Who are exposed to hazards to their health or safety form type of work that they do.
➢ Where the hazards that they are exposed to cannot be eliminated.
➢ Where a task is rarely performed and a special item of PPE will be needed on a one-
off basis it may be issued for that task and then returned.
➢ All other issues of PPE will be on a personnel basis, e.g., N95 Face Mask, 3Ply Face
Mask, etc.
➢ All subcontractors to provide and ensuring their employees comply and properly
equipped with the required PPE or they shall be denied on site. STOP WORK ORDER
can be issued to the non-cooperate sub-contractors.
5.6 Instruction in the Correct use of PPE
• The employee’s Supervisor will ensure that they are given full instruction on the correct
use of the PPE and ensuring all PPE wore all the time by the employee.
• This shall include: -
➢ The selection of the correct type of equipment for the job, e.g. eye and hearing
PPE.
➢ The correct way to fit and wear the PPE.
➢ The care and maintenance of the PPE.
➢ When the equipment has become unusable and must be replaced.
5.7 Requirement to use PPE
• In accordance to legal and other requirements, employees must wear or use at all times,
any protective equipment or clothing provided to prevent risks to his or her health and
safety and, not to intentionally, recklessly or negligently interfere with or misuse anything
provided or done in the interests of health safety and welfare.

• It is the intention of this procedure to ensure that all employees whom are exposed to
hazards, for which PPE is the required form of protection, will wear the PPE during the
full duration of exposure to that hazard at the site.
• Failure to wear any item of PPE may result in the employee and/or their Supervisor being
issued with a verbal or written warning which may, depending on the seriousness or
frequency of the occurrence, be dealt with at a higher level in the Company. It may also
result in the imposition of penalties against the staffs, employees and Contractors. The
employee and/or employer can also be prosecuted for failure to comply with the
legislation.
• All Gagasan Maya’s staff, contractors and employees shall comply with the standard PPE
requirements while entering the construction site
