Photosynthesis

Instructor: Mr. Danny Española Jr.

Subject: Science

Class: Grade 7A

Time: 8:30-9:30 am

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:

A. Illustrate the overall chemical reaction of photosynthesis.

B. Explain the process of photosynthesis.
C. Know the role of light in the process of photosynthesis.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Photosynthesis
B. References
• Science Learner's Material 167-171
• http://www.youtube.com/photosynthesis.process
C. Materials:
• Powerpoint Presentation
• Illustrations
• Images
D. Concepts:
A. Photosynthesis is a process whereby plants manufacture their own food by trapping light
energy from the sun to convert carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O) into sugar/glocuse.
B. The process of photosynthesis are as follows:
Step 1: Chlorophlasts in theplant cells capture the energy from sunlight.
Step 2: The captured light energy is used to produce sugar and oxygen from water and CO2.
Step 3: Sugar produced are used by the plant cells for energy.
Step 4: Oxygen exits through stomata on the underside of the leaf.
E. 21st Century Skills:

III. Procedure
A. Preliminaries

Teacher's Activity Student's Activity

A. Greetings: "Good morning Sir"

"Good Morning Class"
B. Opening Prayer:
"Earl, please lead the prayer" Earl: "Let us put ourselves in the presence of the
Lord. In the name of the Father and of The Son and
the Holy Spirit. Praise be thy name of our Lord
Jesus Christ."
Others: " Now and forever, amen"
"Please be seated." All: "In the name of The Father and of The Son and
of the Holy Spirit, amen."
C. Checking of Attendance:
"Ryan, are there any absentees today?
D. Checking of assignment: Ryan: "There are no absentees today. All are

"Yes Sir"

B. Motivation

Teacher's Activity Student's Activity

"Our topic for today is about"

(Teacher will present a diagram of photosynthesis
to the class)
"So can anyone tell me what the diagram is all Kelpie: "Balancing equation Sir because there is a

Kelpie?"
"Okay, thank you Kelpie. How about you Lydia?"
"Thank you also Lydia. So Lydia's right, this
diagram represents the process of
photosynthesis."

C. Lesson Proper

Teacher's Activity Student's Activity

"So our topic for today is all about
photosynthesis."
(The teacher will flash pictures.)
"Class, what do you think is the significance of Bridgette: "They are important raw materials of
these pictures? Yes Bridgette? the reactants for photosynthesis."

"Is it correct class?" "Yes Sir"

"Okay, that's correct. It is true that carbon dioxide, Ermine: "Without the presence of light energy
water, and light energy are the important factors coming from he sun, plants cannot make their own

think is the role of light in this process?" Yes
Ermine? "Yes Sir"
"Ermine is correct. The light energy is very
important in the process of photosynthesis. The
captured light energy from the sun is used to
produce the glucose/sugar, which is the food of Jade: "The reactants are the carbon dioxide, water,

photosynthesis? Yes Jade? "None sir"

"Jade is correct. Now the general balanced

"Okay let's come now to the process of
photosynthesis. I have here a video presentation. Elizabeth: "The chlorophyll which is the green

the process? Yes, Elizabeth? Jemarie: "The sugar/glucose produced are used by
the plant cells for energy and also oxygen exits
"Very well said. Who else? Yes, Hatori? through the stomata on the underside of the leaf."
"None Sir"
"That's correct, last one. Yes, Jemarie?"

"Yes, all that you have said are true. Basically, that
is how the food making of the plant happens. Are
there any questions?"
"So much for that, get one-half sheet of paper."
IV. Evaluation
Enumeration and Identification
1-3. The reactants in the process of photosynthesis.
4-5. The products in the process of photosynthesis.
6. It captures the light energy from the sun.
7. It is a process whereby plants manufacture their own food.
8. It is where oxygen exits and it is found underside of the leaf.
9-10. The general balanced chemical equation of photosynthesis.
V. Assignment

Study the next topic and answer the Enrichment Activity on a one whole sheet of paper on
pp. 174.
