ACTIVITY 2

What I Have Learned

1. I will identify the minerals by the hardness color and appearance of it.
2. No, because it won’t benefit me from it and all the gold will come to the rich
people anyways.
3.
PROS CONS
Higher tax income for governments Habitat destruction
Mining is crucial for technological Biodiversity loss
progress
Mining is a mature technology Endangerment of species
Processes around mining are quite Mining can lead to ecological
efficient imbalance

4. Minerals are something that we needed when creating or inventing something

that we can use to our daily lives, it is our need to make our life easier. The
electricity we are using today are made out of minerals and all the products
we are using in our kitchen, without the minerals we won’t be able to live like
what we are now.
Direction:
Identify your birthstone and create about it physical and chemical
properties
Topaz – Has an hardness scale of 8. Making it the hardest silicate mineral. Topaz
occurs in a wide range of colors. The most valuable colors for use in jewelry are
natural pink, orange, red, purple and blue. These colors are very rare. The most
common natural colors are colorless, pale yellow, and brown. It also has a distinct
basal cleavage that breaks to form vitreous fracture surfaces perpendicular to the
long axis of the crystal.

You have been assigned to feature a diamond in your flyer. What

properties of diamond are you going to highlight.
-Hardness
-Resistant to chemical corrosion
-High Strength
