Part Two: “Interacting as a Pilot”. In this part, you have to interact with the Air
Traffic Control in five different situations. You may ask the controller to repeat each
recording once. After listening to the controller, you should interact as the pilot. All
information is important. You may take notes if you wish. You are the pilot of a twin-
engined aircraft. Your call sign is ANAC 123.
Are the instructions clear?
Yes, they are clear.
SITUATION 1: You are approaching Miami for landing on a visual flight. You requested
descent to the controller. Listen to Miami tower and read back.

➢ Controller: ANAC 123, descend to 4500 feet, altimeter setting 1018,


expect runway 12 for landing. Report 5 miles from Miami.

YOUR ANSWER: Descend to 4500 feet, altimeter setting 1018, expect runway
12 for landing, report 5 miles from Miami, ANAC123.

Now, I want you to report to the ATC that you are 5 miles from Miami. Then, interact
appropriately.

SITUATION 4: You are at Dubai airport. You requested taxi instructions. Listen to Dubai

➢ Controller: ANAC 123, taxi via taxiways Bravo, Juliet 1 and Kilo to the
holding point of runway 12 right. When ready monitor Dubai tower on frequency
118,35.

Now, imagine that you took off from Dubai runway 12 right, however your annunciator
lights indicated that a door is open and you realize you are losing pressure. Inform this
to the controller and ask for holdings to dump fuel because you are above the maximum
landing weight. Then, interact appropriately.

➢ Controller: ANAC 123, squawk 7700 and maintain holdings 5 miles

turn left, climb restricted to flight level 070. After passing 2000 feet contact
departure on frequency 132,25.

SITUATION 9: You are approaching Istanbul airport on final approach. Listen to Istanbul

➢ Controller: ANAC 123, radar contact, squawk ident, descend to 7000


feet on your current heading, altimeter setting 3002, expect RNAV for runway 31.

Now I want you to imagine that during descent you observed this

Now imagine that you had this problem that I will show you in the picture during climb

Now, imagine that the 20 minutes passed, and the ATC didn’t clear you from the

Imagine that the glide slope got unserviceable, so the controller offered you a visual
approach, as you are unfamiliar with the airport, ask him to perform the RNAV approach
