How can music therapy be a tool in the self-regulation of adolescents on

pathological problems such as anxiety?

Introduction

Question answered: What is music therapy and how does it work?

Music therapy is the discipline that appeals to musical quality to assist in a therapeutic process

with the correct professional accompaniment. Music has several positive effects on human

beings, including relaxation, and happiness, and helps us think, remember, dream, etc. An

important point is the fact that humans have had a connection with music since prehistoric times.

we could perceive, respond to, and create music. The way music affects the brain is

overspecified. All aspects of music are processed by different areas of the brain. The brain's

reward center, called the nucleus accumbens, can even produce strong physical signals of

pleasure, music therapy uses these deep physical reactions that the body has to music as a type of

cognitive therapy.

Question answered: In which situations is music therapy most effective?

Music therapy does not rely on verbal communication, so it may be better for people who have

trouble communicating verbally. This could be due to a disability, a neurodegenerative condition

such as dementia, an acquired brain injury, or a mental health condition. It should be noted that

this type of therapy is not far from others, it is effective if the patient is willing to collaborate and

follow the instructions of the professional. Since before starting with this methodology, an

evaluation must be made about the patient and his history, since the music used will have a lot to

do with the personal history of the patient. Therapies can be individual or group, depending on

the patient's requirements. In the same way, it can be active or passive.

Question answered: How does music therapy help control anxiety in teenagers?

The intervention of music therapy in educational centers or at home; can reduce the levels of

anxiety and stress. Since most adolescents suffer from common pathologic, such as anxiety,

ADHD, depression, etc. When working with teenagers, a point of closeness and not distancing is

important. Music therapy intervention is a way to get to the core of an adolescent problem and

provide them with a new tool for self-management and self-regulation within their development

as people.

So, although these problems (anxiety, attention deficit, depression, etc.) are not necessarily

associated with adolescence, in a combination of school stress with personal and social

problems, high levels of anxiety and stress are generated that they are not able to manage by

themselves. Among some benefits that passive music therapy can provide to young people are

reducing stress levels, improving students' rhythmic-motor and expressive abilities, and

developing their emotional intelligence.
