1. List the elements of the following sets.

i. A = {𝑥|𝑥 ∈ 𝑅 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑥 4 = 1}
ii. A = {𝑛|𝑛 ∈ 𝑁 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑛 < 7}
2. Determine the truth value of each of the following statements.
i. It is not the case that 5 is an even integer. T
ii. 5 < 7 and √7 is a real number. T
iii. 9 ≥ 11 and 45 is a multiple of 5. F
iv. 7 < 5 or 3 is a prime integer. T
v. 5 times 7 is 15 or 9 – 7 = 5. F
vi. If 2 is an odd integer, then Andy is in New York. (Moreover, write the converse and
inverse of this statement.) T
vii. If Lisa is in New York, then 2 is an even integer. (Moreover, write the converse and
inverse of this statement.) T
3. Show that ~ (p ∧ q) ∨ q is a Tautology.
4. Show that (p ∨ q) ∧ (~ p ∧ ~ q) is a Contradiction.
5. Translate the following into symbolic form and test the validity of the argument:
If 6 is even then 2 doesn’t divide 7. Either 5 is not prime or 2 divides 7. But 5 is prime,
therefore 6 is odd. Valid
6. Determine the contrapositive of each statement:
i. If Neha is a writer then she is rich.
ii. If Rohan does not work hard then he will not get first position.
7. Represent the argument symbolically and determine whether the argument is Valid.
If I Study, then I will not fail Mathematics. If I do not have play basketball, then I will

8. Represent the argument symbolically and determine whether the argument is Valid.
If it rain today, then we will not have a party today. If we do not have party today, then we
will have a party tomorrow. Therefore, if it rains today, then we will have a party tomorrow.
Valid
9. The converse of a statement is given. Write the inverse and the contrapositive statements
“If I come early, then I can get the car”.
10. The inverse of a statement is given. Write the converse and contrapositive of the statement.
