Introduction
Computer literacy is the ability to perform basic tasks on the computer. Because of the
continually increasing use of computers in our daily communications and work, the knowledge
of computer systems and the ability to work with word processing, data management, and
spreadsheet and data analysis programs have become essential requirements at our society. There
was once a time when computer skills were an optional skill set.
There are three different levels of computer literacy: primary, which refers to the
foundational skills; intermediate, which directs to computer literacy and competency above the
foundational level; and proficient, which presents the computer literacy and competency above
Nowadays, computer literacy is a mandatory skill for success in school, the job force, and
everyday life. Students who do not learn age-appropriate computer skills such as typing, online
research, and discerning internet usage can fall behind in their classes and struggle to maintain
their grades. Such difficulties can even continue on into adulthood. In terms of work, Companies
are also more likely to hire computer literate applicants, as these candidates take less time to
train and are more efficient at their jobs. Computer literacy is always evolving based on the latest

one of the most dominant types of technology existing today, and this is also one of the best
partners of a student when it comes to information gathering. Today, the computer plays a
significant role in every individual's life. It is now used for studying, business, education, and
even our personal life. There is no denying the fact that technology, especially computers, can be

literacy. This includes the user's basic knowledge in terms of using computer software and/or
hardware to perform simple tasks, such as data gathering and sending information. Therefore, in
this study, to find out the computer literacy of the ICT senior high school students from TIFTCI,
we will study their computer proficiency skill levels and make a conclusion using the results to
Computer Literacy enables students to use online platforms to their fullest to learn.
Computer learning platforms like MOOCs allow students to connect with others and to learn a
lot of things online for free anytime and anywhere. According to the article by ChildHope
(2021), The education system has undergone a paradigm shift from where it used to stand years
ago. In the past, students used to visit libraries and read large books to find the information they
require. In the 20th century, searching for the same thing might provide thousands of results in a
split second. Computers, laptops, and smartphones are the devices necessary in today's age.
Additionally, given that our country's schools continue to offer online courses, students must
the researchers find it very important for students to have even the basic computer skills to be
considered computer literate because being computer literate in this generation means you can
have more advanced skills that you can use to your advantage and also keep up with the age of
technology.

This study will cover the demographic profile of Senior High school students from Trent
Information First Technical Career Institute Inc, such as gender, track, and strand. The primary
focus of this study is to determine the level of computer literacy of ICT Students in terms of their
fundamental computer skills, basic computer skills, intermediate computer skills, and advanced
computer skills. The participants of the study will be the enrolled students from Trent
This study will not cover any factors affecting the level of computer literacy of ICT
students. The information gathered will also be limited to the respondents of the survey
questionnaires, and the results of the study will only apply to the respondents of the study and
will not be used as a measure of the computer literacy of ICT students outside the population of
the study. The main source of data will be the questionnaire, which is to be prepared by the
researchers.
This study will aim to find the significance of the Computer Literacy Level of ICT Senior
High School students from TIFTCI. The results of this research could be of great significance for
the following:
The Students are the ones who will benefit the most from this study because they can find
out in this study whether Computer Literacy can become important for them as a student,
especially amidst the pandemic wherein almost everything is done online. This study will also
The Teacher will also benefit from this study because they are the ones handling the
students. They need to be able to know how important computer literacy is for a student or how
they will implement it for their other students. They will also be able to know the effects of
Aside from teachers and students, this study will also be beneficial for current researchers
and future researchers. The results of this study may be helpful for the current researcher to
know the relation between computer literacy and the academic achievement of a student while
future researchers might be able to find the inspiration to do another study related to this, and
they might be able to use the information we will provide and have an even wider perspective
FRAMEWORK
Computer Literacy is the level of knowledge and skill regarding the effective use of
computers and technologies for individuals' aims. Computer literacy is the basic condition for a
technology learning environment. In this review, we can find whether there is a positive or
negative impact on the student's academic performance based on their computer literacy.
In the study by (Lung-Yu Li and Long-Yuan Lee, 2016) after conducting a survey of 252
respondents, it showed that the students in GSOE in Taiwan have high computer literacy.
Accordingly, most of the results indicated that these GSOE students in Taiwan obtained high
scores in computer literacy (mean 4.43 of 5.00). In comparison to traditional classroom learning,
online learning, according to the majority of respondents, offers a setting that boosts confidence
and offers a more flexible approach to learning. However, the researchers added that the hours
spent using a computer were positively correlated with attitudes toward online learning whereas
the hours spent accessing the Internet were negatively correlated with online learning attitudes.
Thus, they concluded that students who spend a lot of time on the internet are most likely not
doing anything related to their academics. Instead, they may be spending their time entertain
themselves leading to negative attitudes towards using computers for online learning. They also
added that as stakeholders adopt a more favorable mindset toward the use of technology in
secondary schools in Nigeria's Edo State, the study looked at the influence of computer literacy
In the research study (Dinçer, 2016) The findings indicated that university graduates had
poor computer literacy levels and that men were more knowledgeable computer users than
women. Although many of the people claimed to be computer literate, it was shown in the study
and internet technologies enable new approaches to teaching and learning rather than just
enabling instructors and students to perform their current tasks more effectively. ICT-supported
education can encourage the acquisition of knowledge and skills that will help students with
lifelong learning if it is planned and carried out appropriately. He concluded that ICTs can be
utilized to raise the standard of instruction. They can encourage student motivation the mastery
of fundamental ideas, the growth of higher-order thinking abilities, and skills for lifelong
learning.
To determine the computer literacy level of the students we will test it according to their
computer skills and knowledge. According to an article by Free Resume Builder (2016) on the
job market, a candidate's level of computer skill competency is evaluated using a variety of tests.
The International Competitions and Assessments for Schools, or ICAS, is one of the most
popular. However, according to the article, the most common rating system used by hiring
advanced. To further justify the use of this measurement, a study conducted by Concordia
University (2011) which is to test computer literacy according to the level of proficiency also
used these levels of measurement of computer skills. Therefore, the researchers will also use this
as a guide to measuring the level of computer literacy of the ICT senior high school students
from TIFTCI.
Theoretical Framework
This study will adopt Siemen's Connectivism learning theory. The Connectivism:
Learning Theory was first developed by George Siemens and Stephen Downes (Siemens &
Downes, 2005). This theory implies that information is a network that is continually being
Siemens & Downes (2005) said that connectivism begins when a student uses digital
technology to solve a problem. For most students, this problem can be the school work and/or
activity. Then they use online platforms accessible on most computers including laptops to find
answers. The key ideas in connectivism as learning are: knowing where to go for what is
required, knowing how to evaluate the reliability and validity of sources, and cultivating a
As stated in the review of related literature, the researchers will measure the student's
computer literacy according to the level of their computer skills in terms of proficiency in
computer skills which are fundamental computer skills (Possessing fundamental computer skills
means the respondents have no to little computer experience or training), basic computer skills
(Possessing basic computer skills requires a small amount of computer experience, including a
computer skills (Intermediate computer skills require a moderate amount of previous computer
spreadsheets, and databases.) and lastly the final level of proficiency, advanced computer skills,
at this stage, respondents should be able to use word processing, email, the internet and
spreadsheets to their fullest capacity. They should also understand basic software development
and programming. (Free Resume Builder, 2016). This research will revolve around these levels
of computer skills to also measure the computer literacy of ICT senior high school students from
TIFTCI.
Research Design
The research design used in this study was the descriptive method. We applied this
research method for this study because it is usually used to identify characteristics of a variable.
In this study's case, the researchers will measure and describe the computer literacy of ICT
students. Therefore, to further explain and describe the computer literacy level of students in
terms of their computer skills, the researchers find this methodology the most fitting. Hence, it is
suitable to further analyze the computer literacy level of ICT senior high school students from
The chosen population of this study is the senior high school students from Trent
Information First Technical Career Institute Inc. Since the target population of this research is
the ICT senior high school students, this study will use non-probability sampling, specifically
purposive sampling in which case units are selected on purpose because they have the
characteristics required for the study. In simple words, units are selected on purpose. The
researchers believe that this way they can get the most reliable answers for their study. This
study is about computer literacy level therefore, ICT students are the best target respondents
because they have a thorough understanding of how to answer the survey questionnaire to the
best of their abilities. This way the researchers can get the best possible answer to the research
problems.
This study will be conducted on the students of Trent Information First Technical Career
