ACTIVITY 1: TYPES OF PROBABILITY RANDOM SAMPLINGS
Sampling Procedure Brief Discussion
1. Simple Random Sampling Every member of the population has an equal
chance of being included as a sample.
2. Systematic Sampling Every member of the population is listed with
a number, but instead of randomly generating
numbers, individuals are chosen at regular
intervals.
3. Stratified Sampling This involves dividing the population into
subpopulations that may differ in important
ways.
4. Cluster Sampling This involves dividing the population into
subgroups, but each subgroup should have
similar characteristics to the whole sample.

ACTIVITY 2 SAMPLING PROCEDURE

1. The company has offices in 10 cities across the country (all with roughly the same number
of employees in similar roles). You don’t have the capacity to travel to every office to collect
your data, so you can use random sampling to select 3 offices.
Sampling Procedure: Cluster Sampling
2. The company has 800 female employees and 200 male employees. You want to ensure
that the sample reflects the gender balance of the company, so you sort the population
into two strata based on gender. Then you use random sampling on each group, selecting
80 women and 20 men, which gives you a representative sample of 100 people.
Sampling Procedure: Stratified Sampling
3. You want to select a simple random sample of 100 students of your school. You assign a
number to every student in the school database from 1 to 1, 000, and use a random
number generator to select 100 students.
Sampling Procedure: Simple Random Sampling
DEEPEN

1. What is the difference between population and sample?

A population is the entire group that you want to draw conclusions about. A sample is the
specific group that you will collect data from. The size of the sample is always less than
the total size of the population.
2. What is a sampling frame?
A sampling frame is a list or other device used to define a researcher's population of
interest. The sampling frame defines a set of elements from which a researcher can select
a sample of the target population.
3. When will you use cluster sampling in a quantitative research?
This method is usually conducted when groups that are similar yet internally diverse form
a statistical population. Instead of selecting the entire population, cluster sampling allows
the researchers to collect data by bifurcating the data into small, more productive groups.
ACTIVITY 1: HOW FAR DO YOU KNOW?
1. When will you say that a news is valid? When is it reliable?
A news is valid if it has a reliable source. It is reliable if you check to see if the information
in the news is also present in at least one reputable media: the main newspapers or news
agencies.
2. Of the different information found in social media, what will you do to determine whether
an information is valid and reliable?
I will always check if the source is reliable or not. If the source is trusted and reliable then
I’m confident that the information is a fact.

DEEPEN
1. What makes a good research instrument?
A good research instrument is one that has been validated and has proven reliability. It
should be one that can collect data in a way that's appropriate to the research question
being asked. The instrument are used without much expenditure. A good instrument is
easy to score and it is reusable.
2. What makes a research instrument valid?
Validity refers to the degree to which an instrument accurately measures what it intends
to measure. Three common types of validity for researchers and evaluators to consider
are content, construct, and criterion validities.
3. What makes a research instrument reliable?
A test is reliable to the extent that whatever it measures, it measures it consistently. From
a research point of view, the scale seems to be reliable because whatever it is measuring,
it is measuring it consistently. Whether those consistent results are valid is another
question.

Research Title Financial Knowledge Levels and Savings Behaviors of Grade 12

ABM at PEQNHS
Statement of the problem The financial knowledge and savings behaviors of Grade 12 ABM
at PEQNHS should be established to determine if there is a need
for personal finance education at this school. The purpose of this

6. Stephan and Gary are young men. Each has a good credit
history. They work at the same company and make approximately
the same salary. Ed has borrowed ₱2,500 to take a foreign
vacation. Bob has borrowed₱2,500 to buy a car. Who is likely to
pay the lowest finance charge?
a) they will both pay the same because the rate is set by law
b) they will both pay the same because they have almost identical
financial background
c) Staphan will pay less because people who travel overseas are
better risks
d) Gary will pay less because the car is collateral for the loan
7. Which of the following is NOT typically associated with
spending?
a) credit card
b) cash
c) certificate of deposit
d) debit card
8. Lewellyn and Karen just had a baby. They received money as
baby gifts and want to put it away for the baby's education. Which
of the following tends to have the highest growth over periods of
time as long as 18 years?
a) savings bonds
b) stocks
c) a savings account
d) a checking account
9. Owen and Marie are the same age. At age 25 Owen began
saving ₱2,000 a year while Marie saved nothing. At age 50, Marie
realized that she needed money for retirement and started saving
₱4,000 per year while Owen kept saving his ₱2,000.
Now they are both 75 years old. Who has the most money in his
or her retirement account?
a) Maria, because she saved more each year
b) Owen, because he has put away more money
c) Owen, because his money has grown for a longer time at
compound interest
d) They would each have the same amount because they put
away exactly the same
1. How will you validate your research instrument?
As a process, validation involves collecting and analyzing data to assess the accuracy of
an instrument. There are numerous statistical tests and measures to assess the validity
of quantitative instruments, which generally involves pilot testing. In other words,
do the measures (questions, observation logs, etc.)
2. How will you establish its reliability?
Reliability can be assessed with the test-retest method, alternative form method, internal
consistency method, the split-halves method, and inter-rater reliability. Test-retest is a
method that administers the same instrument to the same sample at two different points
in time, perhaps one year intervals.

Research Title: The Effects of Business Simulations on Teaching and Learning in IS
Education: a case of experiential learning
Background Information It has been observed and documented that
UCOL Information Systems students often
question the value of highly theoretical
business papers as part of their Bachelor of
Applied Information Systems (Kelly, et al.,
1999; Toki & Foster, 1999). To overcome this
learning barrier the IS team created an
Internet/intranet business simulation,
SIMplicity (Foster, 1999). The authors of this
paper developed an action research plan to
create experiential learning of business for
computing students by effectively using
SIMplicity. The framework for this action
research followed the Cardno/Piggot-Irvine
Model (1994) which consists of three phases:
reconnaissance, intervention and evaluation.
Within each of these phases there were four
stages, consisting of planning, action,
observation and reflection. The SIMplicity
business simulation involves complex
systemic problems with horizontal learning
across industry by teams representing
companies who are competing for market
share of products (Toki, et al., 1999).
Compressed turns represent the company’s
financial period. After each turn the industry
and company information is generated to aid
the team’s next strategic business decision.
The focus of this paper is how an IS educator
can effectively deliver a business simulation to
create experiential learning for students. This
action research approach will state the plan for
the simulation delivery, discuss the student
and IS educator’s actions and concurrent
observations; then reflect on the data by
exploring implications and identifying changes
for the next iteration of simulation delivery.
This paper discusses two research objectives.
The first research aim was to examine the use
of a business simulation as a tool for learning,
assessment and performance.
Differences and Similarities between the The simulation gave students a greater
Experimental and Control Group awareness about the need for communication
within their ‘company’, to draw on each other’s
skill sets. Taking on different roles, as many
participants did, gave them an appreciation for
other’s points of view. The communication
skill set provided by the simulation could lend
itself to assessing across other units of
learning within an IS degree programme. eg.
Information Systems Communication. From
the student feedback received it appears that
a significant proportion of students found the
simulation helped bring the business theory to
life. It has been confirmed in the business
arena that playing games is effective in
training and preparing employees to thrive in a
competitive environment and committing to
new processes.
Procedure of the Intervention The SIMplicity simulation learning experience
was planned to occur over a five-day period
using a combination of four formal sessions
and unsupervised student groupwork. The
authors were the lecturers carrying out this
student learning experience. The exercise
was to be an assessment of compulsory
participation. The simulation was to be
introduced and demonstrated, before students
formed 20 groups of five members each to
represent competitive companies. Students
were to make daily company strategic
decisions. Each decision was to represent a
financial term. The lecturers would
deliberately provide a demonstration and
supply documentation to the groups before the
application was made accessible to the
students. An expected effect would be to whet
their appetites to get stuck in. Students were
told there would be a prize for the best
performing company. Lecturers would be
accessible by email, telephone and in person
for the duration of the student learning
experience. At the completion of five turns the
students would be required to regroup in class.
In this session the financial outcomes,
teamwork, strategies used and simulation
technique would be discussed. A formal
student evaluation form was designed to
provide feedback for the next iteration.
Basis of Procedures Session One involved introducing the
concepts of business simulation. Students
reviewed the business
theory and the relevance of a business
simulation was confirmed. Students were told
to form their groups to represent their
company. Company name and strategy was
discussed. In Session Two the business
simulation was demonstrated and the
timeframe for the simulation explained. The
lecturers confirmed the business theory
relevance in a business simulation. The
student groups confirmed they had company
strategies. After this session the students went
to any computer on-site to input their first
decisions to the business simulation. The
lecturers generated each turn at 8.00am the
next morning. In Session Three lecturers led
student discussion about the observation and
reflection of the simulation. At this stage the
student groups had completed 3 of the 5 turns.
This session also provided a troubleshooting
forum. Session Four saw the culmination of
this experiential exercise. The final
performance results of each company were
ranked and discussed. The winning team was
awarded their prize of chocolate. Companies
were asked to provide feedback on their
success or perseverance. A summary of
experience was formalized by students
completing a questionnaire.

The very purpose and objective of developing a product description is to provide
information such as features and benefits to a wide range of customers to attract them
and compelled them to buy.
2. Choose one effective way of writing a Product Description and explain in your own
understanding.
“Tell the Full Story” It is better to tell the full story behind the product that you’re selling
so that the customers will be convinced of its benefit and the story will cause emotional
impact. Through emotional impact, the behavior of the buyers will be affected. They’ll be
attracted with your product and you’ll be closer with the buyers.
ENHANCEMENT ACTIVITY 2
ASSESSMENT 2
1. What is your basis in designing and creating your prototype in enhancement activity 2?
I followed the four steps of constructing product’s prototype. I have my ideas in my mind
and I transferred these ideas in a paper so that I can organize well my idea. Then I tried
creating a model of it in a paper. After figuring out the product that I wanted to produce, I
made a physical prototype of it. I believe that I can make it with myself alone.
2. How important prototyping in an industry? You may elucidate your answer
Prototyping is important in an industry because it enables you to test and refine the
functionality of your designs. Second, it makes it possible to test the performance of
various materials. Lastly, it helps you describe your product more effectively. For instance,
the product you’re planning to produce is head lamp. For you to test the functionality of
your design, you must do a prototype of your product. Also, through prototyping you can
test the materials needed for your head lamp product and lastly, you can identify the best
product description of your product.
ENHANCEMENT ACTIVITY 3
1. Does your test and evaluation confirm the product with the product usefulness as intended
for? If yes, why do you say so? If no, what measures are you going to do?
Yes, the use of my said product is for indoor/outdoor décor and it can also be used as a
pot or planter. The product is designed for its usefulness and there has been no problem
with that at all.
2. Explain why testing and evaluation of prototype is important.
Testing and evaluation of prototype is important because through these two, we can
evaluate whether the specification in functioning well or there’s a need of adjustment or
improvement. Testing is also important because it allow the designer and the client to
gauge the viability of the design. Testing and evaluation allow the client to view the
prototype and to give his/her feedback. Also, safety issues are being identified.

ACTIVITY 3.1: SECOND THE MOTION!

“Nothing happens until something moves”.
“Motion is life. Lack of motion is death.”

In my perspective, the two quotations above are true and can be associated in real life.
For instance, if we lack physical exercise (which requires movement) we are considered as a
sedentary person. A sedentary person tends to spend much time seating instead of engaging
himself/herself in physical activities that may improve the quality of his/her life. If we continue
being a sedentary person, our health is at risk. We may develop serious illness like cancer that
may put our life at danger. The worst scenario that will happen is death. To avoid the worst
scenario, we must engage ourselves in doing physical activities. It can be light, moderate, or
vigorous physical activities. What matters the most is that we’re moving. We’re in motion like how
it is said that life is motion.

liham paanyaya, liham tagubilin, liham pasasalamat, liham kahilingan, liham pagsang-
ayon, liham pagtanggi, liham pag-uulat, liham pagsubaybay, liham pagbibitiw, liham
kahilingan ng mapapasukan/aplikasyon at madami pang iba.
GAWAIN C: SULATIN MO, IBAHAGI MO!
magkaibigan kundi parang magkakapatid.
Maraming maraming salamat aking pamilya. Pag-ibig niyo sakin ay di
matatawaran. Mahal na mahal ko kayo.
GAWAIN D: REPLEKSYON
trabaho at habang nagtatrabaho.

ASSESSMENT 1
1. Hike at a fitness level that’s appropriate for everyone you’re with.
If you plan to hike as a group, you need to consider the capability of everyone in
terms of hiking.
2. Stay hydrated while hiking.
While hiking, you are sweating and that mean that you’re losing body fluids. You
need to drink water to replenish the loss body fluids.
3. Make sure someone knows where you are at all times.
Always tell a person whom you trust your whereabouts so they will not worry
about your safety.
4. Make camp before dark.
It is difficult to make camp at dark because there’s no daylight. You might get
injured if you can’t properly see your surroundings.
5. Protect yourself from carbon monoxide poisoning.
Fuel-burning equipment should never be used inside a tent or enclosed shelter.
ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY 2: TAKING A HIKE
Practice “Leave No Trace” Principle
*At the last page*
ASSESSMENT 2: DO’S AND DON’T’S
1. Stay on the trail.
Stay on the path that’s intended for hiking. Don’t try to go on the other path
because there’s a possibility that you may cause damage.
2. Keep unnecessary noise to a minimum.
You might disturb local wildlife or other mountaineers if you’re loud. Tone down
your voice and enjoy the sound of the nature.
3. Be compassionate and helpful to fellow hikers.
Help your fellow hikers if you saw that they’re having difficulties. Be nice to
everyone. Treat them good always.
4. Observe ‘Right of Way’ on the trails.
You should know which way you’ll choose in accordance to your speed and
situation.
5. Be nice to your local guides and treat them with respect.
You should be aware of their state. If you’re eating, offer them food. If you’re
drinking, give them water too. Don’t disrespect them. Be good to them.
DEEPEN
Despite of all the challenges, difficulties, and hindrances in hiking, camping and
mountain climbing;
1. What pushes you to engage still in the said activity?
The happiness it brought me made me love the activity even if it’s really tiring.
The view which you can see when you reach the top of the mountain ease all the
pain you’re experiencing.
2. How will you do the activity safely?
I will always make sure that I’m bringing all the gears needed for the said activity.
3. While doing the activity, how can you help protect and preserve the
environment?
I will only follow the path that’s intended for hiking. I will not go to the other path
because I might cause damage in the area.

ESSAY
If I were to bring five essential systems for a one-day hike, I’ll bring the following;
navigation, sun protection, head lamp, extra food, and extra water. It is hard to go
somewhere you are not familiar with, without any map or compass because there’s a
possibility that you’ll be lost. Since the hike will begin in the morning, it is expected that
there’s a daylight. We need to use sun protection to protect our skin from the harmful rays
that we may get from the sun. We’ll starve if we don’t eat so we need to bring foods and
water too to keep us hydrated. Lastly, there might be no daylight if we’re going home so
it is better to bring head lamps to guide us on our way.
