This paper reviews about the usability of Social Networking Sites (SNS) for using
it and without using it while learning are being examined in this research. SNS
are now accessible via the Internet, a lot of people in the present are making it as
part of their daily routine, in short a habit to use it daily to check their registered
account on Social Networking Sites and to use it for educational purposes.
According to Petter and Jan (2009) the social networking site is one of the most
well-known social media channels in recent years (SNS). Few prior research
have empirically examined people's SNS usage motivations before, notably not
outside of the United States. By asking 1,200 SNS users an open question about
why they use SNSs, this study blends a large-scale quantitative and qualitative
research design. A preliminary content analysis revealed an important finding:
users frequently list a variety of motivational factors for utilizing SNSs. Getting in
touch with new individual ranks as the main motivation (31%). Keeping in touch
with friends was ranked second (21%) and general socializing came in third
(14%).A total of 11 different reasons and several sub-reasons were identified.
CHAPTER 1

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

Social networking is the practice of maintaining contact with friends,

family, co-workers, and consumers through web-based social media platforms.

Through websites like facebook, twitter, instagram, and pinterest. Social

networking can serve a social purpose, a business purpose, or both (Will, 2022).

The use of social networking sites is the use of Internet-based social media sites

to stay connected or to interact with people virtually. This is important so that you

can easily talk to those you want to talk to and send message to your loved ones.

It is also important especially when there is an emergency that occurs.

Students can create, edit, and share course content in text, video, or

audio formats using social media and mobile devices. New learning cultures

centered on the ideas of group exploration and engagement are created as a

result of technological advancements (Selwyn, 2012). More precisely described

as "a series of Internet-based apps that build on the conceptual and

technological underpinning of web 2.0 and enable creation and exchange of

user-generated materials," social media as a phenomenon first emerged in 2005,

after the actuality of Web 2.0. (Kaplan & Haenlein, 2010). Students have access

to resources, materials, course content, and interactions with mentors and peers

thanks to mobile devices and social media (Cavus & Ibrahim, 2008, 2009;

Richardson & Lenarcic, 2008)

Most students note down new vocabulary in a way that is easy to

review. And since most of them are only focused on one language, they

appreciate keeping vocabulary notes from the lessons. Others planned the

language they learned and set realistic goals. The decision to study English, or

return to the English language classroom after a long break, can be

overwhelming. They should also try to plan their studies using a weekly timetable

and set aside one day for self-study, including time to review their lessons.

Planning to study English on a daily or weekly basis can be rewarding, and will

make it easier to measure our progress. This is especially true if you set realistic

goals.

In the modern Era, social networking sites (SNSs) have taken place of

traditional forms of communication, having an impact on language use across a

range of domains, particularly in the teaching and learning processes. Young

users spend a significant portion of their week communicating on SNSs, creating

a whole own type of internet slang in the process. Other linguistic usage has

been influenced by this youth-speak. Many students are having a lot of time

spending more on social networking rather than doing other activities outside

their houses. Because of technology, many of us especially when it comes to

constructing words, can make a lot of difference between its influenced.

Online social networking networks (SNS) are becoming more and more

popular. Particularly among adolescents and young adults, new social

networking techniques are being employed in areas like knowledge sharing, idea

formulation, creative output, communication, etc. These groups can be referred

to as the IGENERATION because they use the internet for the majority of their

daily tasks, such as staying connected, completing projects and assignments,

and gathering information about the world around them,(Geeta Rai,2017) as

opposed to older generations who relied on resources like newspapers, libraries,

and television to stay current. Examining how young people of the current

generation use social networking sites was the study's goal. A descriptive

research approach was utilized to understand how often young people use social

networking sites and its impact on their performance and psychological well-

being. In this research the students who are in grade 10 in Bible Baptist Christian

Academy (BBCA), Purok Nilo, Maranding, Lala, Lanao del Norte, will be the

respondents of this study. For us to know if social networking sites has an effect

of their academic performance especially their skills when it comes to applying

their learnings coming from SNS.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
This study looked at whether students' academic performances have

changed if they spent the majority of their time on social networking sites. In

figure (1.0) it demonstrates the interaction between the independent, dependent,

and intervening factors. This research sight if there are any changes of the
students when it comes to their learning habits, if they’re using social networking

sites most of the time.

INDEPENDENT DEPENDENT
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Some students are being influence by the social networking, especially

now a days we are having a lot of high technology gadgets. This study aims to

find the relationship between the uses of social networking and its effect of the

academic performances of grade 10 students in English. Specifically it will

answer the following question:

1. What is in the socio-economic profile in terms:

1.1 sex;

1.2 gender;

1.3 parent’s educational attainment;

1.4 family’s monthly income;

1.5 1st quarter grade in English

2. What is their post-test scores?

3. Is there a significant relationship between their exposure in social networking

sites to their demographic profile of the students?

4. Is there a significant difference between their exposure in social networking

sites and their post-test?

5. What seminar-workshop and recommendations can be designed based on the

result of the study?

HYPOTHESES

Hypotheses in a null forms were formulated and tested empirically at 0.05 level

of significance.

HO1: There is no discernible difference between using Social Networking Sites

for study purposes and the students study habits.

HO2: There is no discernible difference between not using Social Networking

Sites and participating in the in terms of a student's study habits.

HO3: In the research habits of the students, there is no discernible difference

between those who used Social Networking Sites and those who do not.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

During the globalization era, social networking sites has become more

prevalent in everyone’s daily lives. People around the world may communicate,
research, share knowledge, acquire new experiences, and to interact with people

virtually.

This study is beneficial to the following:

School Administrators. The study's findings would provide the basis for

developing and improving the curriculum. In order for them to understand that

they need to create a curriculum that helps students who struggle to maintain

their English-language habits and who have other challenges that need to be

addressed in order to support the development of talents and skills both inside

and outside of the classroom.

The Teachers. Social media pages run by teachers provide a never-ending

supply of resources for every grade and subject. Not only may you uncover

brilliant ideas to use in your own career in education, but you can also focus on

your professional development while forming enduring relationships and growing

your network.

The Students. Every student's life revolves around social networking sites in

some way. Social networking sites frequently makes it simpler and more

convenient to get information, share information, and communicate. Tutors and

students can connect with one another and utilize these platforms effectively for

the purposes of studying and teaching.

The Parents. In addition, mothers who use social media are more than three

times as likely as fathers to say they receive assistance from their networks for

parenting-related concerns. One in four people report receiving this support.

Community. By utilizing techniques for enhancing the effectiveness of the

students' English study habits, this study can increase their ability to read

effectively and socialize with others. Additionally, this study can be a useful tool

for developing interconnectedness among various members of a community.

Future Researchers. This study can assist and serve as a tool for future

researchers who are looking for research that connects the study habits of

English language learners and their use of social networking sites to tactics for

enhancing their comprehension abilities. With the help of this study, they can

gain a deeper understanding of the English language students' study patterns,

which will help them develop their students' comprehension abilities.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

This chapter represents the review of related literature. After the

researchers conducted a thorough and in-depth search, this chapter covers the

pertinent literature and studies. Connected literature is a detailed evaluation of

existing literature related to the topic of a dissertation. The researchers will use

this as a guide as they construct their study. Additionally, the information in this

chapter aids in familiarizing the reader with knowledge that is pertinent to and

related to the current subject.

Effect of Social Networking Sites on the Quality of Life of College Students:

A Cross-Sectional Study from a City in North India
According to (Saini, et al, 2020) social networking has largely become a

component of human connection as a result of the development and widespread

usage of the Internet and cellphones. The physical, mental, and spiritual health of

people is impacted by their usage of these social networking sites or the Internet.
Therefore, it is important to comprehend how social networking time affects

quality of life (QOL) generally, especially among college-bound students who are

most likely to utilize social networking sites (18–21 years). Materials and

procedures In Chandigarh, 220 college-bound youths (18–21) participated in a

cross-sectional study in 2012. A self-administered survey that was modified from

Young's Internet usage survey was used to gather the data. Suitable statistical

analysis was performed. Results. The majority of respondents (98%) utilize the

Internet. Daily users of social networking sites had lower rates of moderate to

severe stress than nondaily users (15.2% vs. 30.5%), and lower rates of

moderate to severe stress than nondaily users (18.2% vs. 35.4%) when it came

to work and relationships, respectively. Users use social networking sites on a

regular basis report being much happier with their classmates, their problem-

solving skills, their physical looks, and their life's achievements. Conclusion.

Adolescents in India are becoming increasingly entangled in social networking

platforms. There are significant benefits to daily social networking site users'

quality of life compared to non-daily users. A constant and critical examination of

the shifting trends is necessary since Internet usage may not yet be at the point

where it has an impact on the current condition of health.

Social Network Sites and Well-Being: The Role of Social Connection

According to (Clark, Algoe, & Green, 2017) online communication was

once thought to be harmful to wellbeing, according to conventional knowledge

and academic research from the early days of the Internet. Later studies have
compounded this picture by providing contradictory information regarding the

effects of technology-mediated communication on users. This issue is more

critical than ever in light of the rise of social networking sites. A comprehensive

assessment of the substantial amount of research on social networking sites

leads to the conclusion that the interpersonal-connection-behaviors paradigm,

which unifies disparate findings, may reconcile them. In particular, we propose

that social networking sites benefit their users when they are used to forge

significant social ties and damage their users when they are not through

problems like social comparison and isolation. This method also suggests the

necessity of researching particular online behaviors in future research, and it may

largely explain the advantages and disadvantages of using social networking

sites as revealed in previous research.

Social Networking Sites and Youth Transition: The Use of Facebook and
Personal Well-Being of Social Work Young Graduates
According to (Jacinto, et al, 2020) the digital environment in which

young people live must be taken into account in research on youth transitions

and the wellbeing of young people. Social networking sites are increasingly

important in young people's personal and professional interactions, and a very

high percentage of occupations demand digital abilities. Over half (56%) of

people aged 16 to 74 used the internet for social networking sites in 2018, and

this figure rises among younger generations, according to Eurostat (2019).

Participating on social networking sites is one of the most popular online

activities in the EU-28. In this article, we present the results of our research on

the digital skills and well-being of young people on Facebook, based on a survey

with a sample of 126 young people graduated from the University of Málaga

(School of Social Work) (Spain). Based on certain scales, the level of digital skills

that students have on Facebook was measured, considering strategic aspects for

information search, level of use and presence of Facebook in life, maintenance of

relations and tolerance to diversity. Variables of psychosocial well-being were

also measured (social capital, self-esteem, life satisfaction, and personal well-

being). Variables of digital skills on Facebook were subsequently related to well-

being variables. Results show that certain digital skills relate to the well-being of

young people. In this regard, we believe it is essential to create educational

policies that could give recent graduates general digital abilities that they can

employ on social networking sites.

Academics and Social Networking Sites: Benefits, Problems and Tensions

in Professional Engagement with Online Networking
According to (Jordan & Weller, 2018) the web has had a significant

impact on how people communicate, and it's possible that online social networks

have changed or improved how we engage with one another. Understanding how

different academic community use social networking is important. This article

offers a unique, unbiased examination of a sizable dataset published by Nature

Publishing Group that shows the findings of a survey on the use of social

networking sites by academics. In order to analyze 480 previously unutilized text

replies, an open coding strategy was adopted. The analysis uncovered numerous

advantages and the issues and conflicts that come with participating in online

networking. By examining groups of jointly reported benefits and issues in the

qualitative analysis, the analysis sheds more light on the intricacies of uptake.

The findings will aid in shifting current discussions about academics' use of social

media away from an exclusive focus on its advantages and toward an

appreciation of the issues and conflicts that come from academic work done

online.

Reflections of Students’ language Usage in Social Networking Sites:

Making or Marring Academic English
According to (Thurairaj, et al, 2015) the usability of Social Networking

Sites (SNS) for teaching and learning is examined in this research. SNS are now

accessible via the Internet. We look at the membership requirements for some

well-known websites, like "Facebook" and "My Space." To assess the trust and

privacy concerns of shared information made available to any given social group,

the characteristics of these sites are examined and then compared. When SNS

are used for teaching and learning, trust and privacy play a crucial role. As a

result, both the pros and cons of SNS are examined in depth. This information

will serve as the foundation for helping to regulate SNS for teaching and learning.

Study Habits and English Learning Achievement of Vocational High School

Students in Samarinda
According to (Amri, ParamaIswari, 2020) one of the numerous

aspects that affect students' learning is their study habits. This crucial element of

the learning process has the power to affect how well children learn. In order to

better understand the relationship between study habits and English learning

achievement, this study looked at first-graders at SMKN 12, a state vocational

school in Samarinda. A quantitative research approach using a correlational

design was used for this investigation. Using the purposive strategy, 65 students

were chosen as the sample. The Study Habits Inventory and documentation

(such as the students' English midterm scores) were the instruments utilized to

gather data on the students' learning achievement in English. The data were

analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson Product Moment Correlation.

The findings suggested a beneficial relationship between study habits and

success in learning English. It follows that the higher the learning achievement of

the pupils, the better their study habits.

The Effect of Study Habits on English Language Achievement

According to (Sabbah,2016) the purpose of this study was to

determine the methods of study that Level Three English as a Second Language

students at the Community College of Qatar utilized (CCQ). It also sought to

determine whether the subjects' study habits contributed to any differences in

their accomplishment in reading, writing, and grammar as indicated by their

cumulative averages in the three aforementioned language disciplines. According

to the successful achievement criteria employed in CCQ, the subject averages

were divided into three levels for the study: low, moderate, and high.Six aspects

of study habits were covered in the Five-Likert questionnaire that the researcher

created: where to study, how to study, when to study, attention and memory,

management and procrastination, and test anxiety. A sample of 50 students, or

37% of the total population of female Level 3 pupils, were given the

questionnaire. On the collected data, frequency and percentages were used to

define demographic factors, along with averages and standard deviations and a

one-way ANOVA test. The descriptive findings revealed that students generally

possessed the following habits: having all study materials ready (pencils, pens,

highlighters, notebooks, and books before beginning to study); studying

challenging subjects when alert; underlining or highlighting the key concepts in

the material being studied; arriving at classes on time (not tardy); beginning with

the teachers' handouts when studying; and anticipating the questions on the test

paper in advance. According to the results of the ANOVA test, top achievers

have significantly higher levels of marks among pupils due to their ability to focus

and retain information. One paragraph should serve as the abstract.

Social Networking on Smartphones: When Mobile Phones Become

Addictive
According to Salehan & Negahban (2013) that the use of mobile

phones is on the rise, especially among young people, as mobile phones

become more widely used. The rapid expansion of use of online social

networking services (SNS) follows this trend. Addiction can result from excessive
technology use. The use of SNS mobile applications is found to be a significant

predictor of mobile addiction in this study. The finding also demonstrates that the

user's SNS intensity and the size of the SNS network influence how they use

SNS mobile applications. Regarding the impact of mobile phones on individual

and public health, this study has implications for academia, governments, and

non-profits.

Social Networking in an Intensive English Program Classroom: A Language

Socialization Perspective
This continuing project by (Reinhardt & zander, 2011) it attempts to

examine the effects of instruction designed to increase student knowledge of the

use of social networking sites (SNS) in an American Intensive English Program

both within and outside of the classroom (IEP). The project uses a variety of

qualitative and quantitative classroom research techniques to follow cohorts of

intermediate-level students during instruction and by tracking their SNS use over

time using language socialization as an interpretative framework (Duff, in press;

Ochs, 1988; Watson-Gegeo, 2004). (e.g. Knobel & Lankshear, 2008). The

instruction was created to foster an experiential and critical understanding of

SNS practices as a means of learning English in the IEP community. It was

informed by the bridging-activities model (Thorne & Reinhardt, 2008) and

situated-learning principles (Gee, 2004; Lave & Wenger, 1991). Results from the

pilot implementation are presented here, which demonstrate how SNS

awareness instruction can support discourses that affirm the values of English as
an International Language (Sharifian, 2009), as well as learner-learner interaction

and the growth of transcultural, plurilingual identities. It was also shown that

students may reject the usage of social networking sites for educational purposes

if it clashes with domestic discourses that favor more traditional, utilitarian kinds

of instruction.

Learners' Attitudes toward Foreign Language Practice on Social Network

Sites.
This research seeks to understand how learners feel about using

social networking sites to practice their English (SNS). 110 students from the

University of the Basque Country in Spain and the University Laica Eloy Alfaro de

Manabi in Ecuador made up the sample. In order to evaluate the characteristics

of I Integration of SNS into Learners' Academic Everyday Activities and (ii)

Learners' Attitudes Towards English Language Practices on SNS, the

researchers used a Likert scale questionnaire. IBM's SPSS V24.00 was used to

evaluate all of the data. The research revealed correlations between students'

attitudes and their sex, age, and nation. The findings also showed that YouTube

and Google+ are more popular among university students in Ecuador and Spain

due to their ease of access and versatility (Villafuerte & Romero, 2017.)

The Impact of Social Networking Sites on Study Habits and Interpersonal

Relationships among Vietnamese Students
According to (Tuan, V. V. 2021) social media today has a

profound impact on every element of human life. This study looks at how social

networking sites affect tertiary students' study habits and interpersonal

interactions. 125 college students from several Hanoi universities were chosen

using a convenience sample method. The research instrument employed the

quantitative approach, and the descriptive survey design was chosen for this

investigation. To gather data for the study, researchers created questionnaires

having Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficients of at least 0.84 and higher. The

frequency, percentage, mean, t-test, and Pearson correlation statistics were used

to analyze the data at the 0.05 alpha level. The results demonstrate that

students' level of use of social networking sites has a substantial impact on their

study habits and interpersonal connections. According to the findings, it is

advised that students receive regular orientation on how and when to utilize

social media to improve their study habits or spend time strengthening their

interpersonal relationships with their families, friends, and professors. Teachers,

students, and parents will all benefit from this study.

friends, and teachers. This study is helpful for parents', teachers', and students'

duties.

Social Networking Addiction: An Overview of Preliminary Findings

According to (Graffiths, Kuss & Demetrovics, 2014) social

networking sites (SNSs) are online communities where users can make public

profiles of themselves, communicate with friends in real life, and connect with

others who share their interests. Anecdotal case study evidence indicates that

certain Internet users' "addiction" to social networks may be a possible mental

health issue. However, there isn't a lot of recent scientific material discussing

how addictive Internet social networks can be. The motivations for using SNSs,

the negative effects of using SNSs, and the possibility of SNS addiction are all

examined in this chapter in order to provide empirical and conceptual insight into

the new phenomena of SNS addiction. The chapter also looks at screening and

assessment techniques and makes some heuristic therapy recommendations

based on how other internet addictions have been treated.

On The Rapid Rise of Social Networking Sites: New findings and Policy
Implications
According to (David, 2009) worldwide, children and, particularly,

adolescents and young people have quickly adopted social networking sites,

providing new opportunities for self-expression, education, the establishment of

numerous relationships, and privacy and intimacy management. On the other

hand, there are also concerns that using social networking sites increases the

likelihood of new threats to one's own safety, such as being bullied, losing one's

privacy, and making bad contacts, among other things. In order to identify

implications for future research and public policy, this article examines recent

findings regarding the social networking practices of children and teenagers.

These focus on the interdependencies between opportunities and risks, the need

for education in digital or media literacy, the significance of incorporating safety

considerations into the design and management of social networking sites, the

necessity of paying more attention to children who are considered to be "at risk,"

and the significance of a children's rights framework in the process of developing

evidence-based policy in this area.

Social networking and academic performance: A review

According to (Doleck & Lajoie, 2017) there are theoretical and

practical implications to the widespread usage of social networking sites by

students and the possible effects of such use on academic achievement.

Therefore, this essay explores how the use of social networking sites affects
academic achievement. The current review, which uses a systematic review to

look at the attempts attempted to explain the relationship between the usage of

social networking sites and academic achievement, synthesizes the empirical

findings of the existing literature. The analysis of 23 peer-reviewed studies

reveals conflicting results about the connection between social network use and

academic achievement, which is a call for more investigation.

Impact of Social Media on English Language: A Review

According to (Sharma, 2015) language continues to be a powerful

means of transferring cultural values, conventions, and ideas fundamental

element in defining any nation's position. India is a multilingual nation that prefers

to promote the usage of English on a national and international scale. India

primarily speaks English. Although it owes the British for its existence, the British

are not entirely responsible for its subsequent rise. It has currently a language of

greater communication that a huge number of people speak around the globe.

Numerous elements, including class, society, and scientific advancements, have

an impact on it also, technology, the media, however, has and continues to have

a significant impact on the English language. Media has always had a significant

impact on language, from the first text to the present the current era's use of

internet lingo. In actuality, modern globalization and development. The learning

process has improved thanks to technology how the world has grown smaller

due to globalization. The all forms of communication, including the internet, radio,

television, video, audio, and any other a variety of other information-transmitting

sources. Nowadays, using a variety of mediums is a crucial teaching tool, not just

for the National Curriculum's English basics, but as a crucial prerequisite for

overcoming the problems of the global economy. Nobody can disregard the

significance of this universal language, which today's survival depends on.

The use of social networking sites in education: A case study of Facebook

According to (Bicen & Uzunboylu,2013) this study aims to

ascertain the benefits of using Facebook and other Web 2.0 tools in education

and to look at how teachers feel about the online learning environment. Teachers

who use Facebook participated in this experimental study, which was conducted

in elementary and high schools. 30 hours and 6 weeks were spent on the study.

In a face-to-face learning setting, the teachers participated in lessons and

accessed resources both online and offline. Additionally, they could collaborate

and communicate with their colleagues via Facebook. The study sample included

36 teachers from elementary and high schools who participated in the Facebook

course's material production as part of an online learning group, and 35 teachers

from primary and secondary schools who created a blended learning group.

These professors were picked at random. The study involved volunteer teachers,

and participation was completely anonymous. The authors' 5-point liker scale

survey, titled "Teachers' Opinions about Facebook in Education," was used to

gather the data. 39 Facebook-positive remarks made up the questionnaire.

Teachers completed it at the start (pre-experience exam) and conclusion of the

research (post-experience test). Results indicate that Facebook could influence

teachers' opinions in a good way if used for educational reasons. Additionally, the

findings show that the Facebook virtual classroom enables teachers to do a

variety of activities with online students that are otherwise impossible. Teachers

firmly believe that this setting fosters learning skills development in addition to

teamwork improvement in kids. Recommendations are offered on the use of

Facebook in education in light of the findings.

Attitudes, Motivation and Study Habits of English Language Learners: The

Case of Başkent University Second-year Students
According to (Colak, 2008) it explored the students' motivation

and motivation orientation levels, and looked into the correlations between the

students' motivation, grades, and departments. This thesis sought to investigate

the attitudes of second-year students at Ba"kent University towards English, their

motivation to learn English, and their general and vocabulary study habits with

respect to their motivation levels.A survey on a five-point Likert scale was used to

conduct the study with 82 second-year students at Başkent University.

Descriptive statistics, a one-way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation tests were

used to examine the data acquired. A question on the participants' general and

vocabulary study habits was also posed. Excel was used to categorize and

evaluate these descriptions, and to create illustration.

CHAPTER 3

RESAERCH METHODS

This chapter presents the research methods used in the study. It also

discusses the research design, research environment, subjects, research

instruments and their validity, data gathering procedures, and the statistical

treatment of the data.

RESEARCH DESIGN
The research design used was the correlational research design

which involves about investigating the relationships between two or more

variables in order to answer the questions concerning the uses of social

networking sites and the academic performances of the grade 10 students in

English. This design was compared to the approaches both using and not using

social networking sites method. The aimed of the design was to determine if

there is an impact of using social networking site to the academic performances

of the English students of grade 10 in BBCA.

RESEARCH ENVIRONMENT

This study conducted at Bible Baptist Christian Academy (BBCA)

which lies in the humble Barangay of Maranding, Purok Nilo, Lala, Lanao del

Norte (figure 1). Maranding Lala, Lanao del Norte, a barangay that is located at

municipality of Lala is a first class municipality in the province of Lanao del Norte.

According to the 2015 census, it has population of 62,727 people. The school is

composed of Muslim and Non-Muslim students, which encourage the

researcher's interests to choose the location for the said study.

The economy is largely dependent of agriculture and fishery. It's

major agricultural products comes from traditional crops like rice, corn, coconut,

and kalamansi (Philippine lime). It likewise produces fishery products from

SUBJECTS

The subjects of the study were the Grade 10 students of BBCA,

Maranding Lala, Lanao del Norte who officially enrolled in the school year 2022-

2023. The number if subjects needed by the researcher's to complete this study

are 50 students in one section, since there is only one section in grade 10. Fifty

students are needed to come up with meaningful results and to really determine

the exact contribution of uses of social networking sites and the academic

performances of the grade 10 students in English. To identify whether using

social networking sites has a positive or negative effects to the grade 10 students

in English, we conducted a survey. With the questionnaires that we have given,

we can finally identify the results by seeing their scores and the time they spent

on the internet daily.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS AND THEIR VALIDITY

In this study, the researchers used post test questionnaire and checklist in

gathering the data. These instruments checked by the research adviser for

validation. The researcher used one story entitled (The Proud Rose). To

determine the skills of the students in English, we wanted to test their reading

comprehension, vocabulary words, and their spelling skills. The same set of

questions will be given to the respondents, but for us to determine if the social

networking sites (SNS) has a negative or positive effect, we are going to

measure their influence on SNS base on their answer of the time they spent on

the internet in the checklists and their post test score.
