Animation evaluation/reflection questions

For this task, take your time and think about your experiences of this assignment.
You must answer ALL of these in order to pass this section.
Your answers should be at least 2-3 lines long for each question in order to pass.

Task 1/3: Reflect on your own research. (U2 3:3.2)

This is about the three worksheets you did as well as anything you have added to your production blog by week, such
as learning about Phonemes, facial structure or anything else you feel is relevant.

For my designs of my cloud and sun, in my secondary research I was looking for easy to draw
friendly sun and cloud styles, I wanted them to look cute but cool, I found a sun design with
What did you use from your
sunglasses which I think really puts emphasis on the suns heat and brightness, furthermore
research that helped you?
for the cloud design I wanted it too look sharp and rigid so reinforce its role as a villain in a
sense, so I went for a tall more bumpy yet sharp looking style.
For my sun design I discarded its eyes as well as blending of colour, due to my lack of art
ability I really suck at drawing eyes so I had to make an eye that didn’t look awful but also not
What did you discard and why?
creepy, blending is also really difficult for me due to my little to zero experience in art; so I
avoided that to make it easier for myself.
I think one thing which would have made my animation a lot better was learning how to draw
What else would it have been
mouths for lip sync, as the mouths I used were essentially premade presets by someone else
more useful to know from your
and I simply used frame picker in Animate. So learning to draw mouths on my own would of

made the animation not only more original but nicer in my eyes.
If I were to research about what mouth styles people liked, I’d use Primary and quantitative. I
would first make a survey with the first question being “what style do you prefer?” -
How would you find this out
Cute, cool and serious. Then I would have the next question be 3 examples of each cute, cool
(P/S/Q/Q)?*
and serious. This would give me a rough idea of what people prefer and expect from the
styles.

Task 2/3: Reflect on your own design, practical skills and build. (U2 3:3.2)
This is about the practical skills you learnt each week. Feel free to go back over the Animation Teams channel if it
helps you remember. Answer each question, including any relevant screen grabs.

What did you use from your Tweening is an easy but great tool to use to make your animation less boring, I used it a lot in
practical skills lessons that helped my animation, but a better alternate would be to do smudge frames where the character
you? leaves smoke behind, this would create a bigger personality and generally show off more skill.
One thing I wanted to do originally was do point of perspective and have a street view from
one point, but due to my lack of ability in art I tried and couldn’t, the main reason it didn’t
What did you discard and why?
work is because I don’t think I fully understand how the point of origin works, so if I were to
do it again id watch a video to explain it.
If I were to do this animation again I’d try and have a different style. I think even due to my
What would you now include and lack of art ability I should of tried to do a different background and entire style, furthermore I
why? think people just go for the same style and I should of gone out of my comfort zone even if it
too a little longer.
I would definitely like to revisit lip syncing although it’s simple I can be pretty tough at times,
What practical skills would you and cause a lot of issues. Therefore I would like to learn how to draw my own mouths for the
like to revisit if you did it again? lip syncing as not only it would make my animation more original it would teach me a value
skill in animation.
I think a practical skill which would have been super helpful would have been blending
Are there any new ones you think colours and shading, for example the sun isn’t just one set colour it as other yellows and
would be useful for this project? oranges inside of it, I would of like to learn how to mix and blend colours to make the
animation look that much better.
How does your final animation Well obviously my animation is significantly worse to professional animations but I am very
compare to professional fond of my characters they have a lot of personality and are kind of cute. I think one thing I
did well was the little sparkle when the sun smiles in my animation. One thing id improve is

background and colour palette, I didn’t really consider borrowing a colour palette from a

would be adventure time as I took inspiration from the grasslands for the background.

Task 3/3: Reflect on your audio ideas and work. (U5 3:3.1)
This is about the audio skills you learnt each week. Feel free to go back over the Animation Teams channel if it helps
you remember. Answer each question, including any relevant screen grabs.

What did you use from your Audio skills wise I used lip syncing, lip syncing can be an overwhelming skill at first, however it
audio skills lessons that helped can be simply learnt if you just do it again and again, the only trouble I have with it is making
you? my own mouths to do lip sync with, I think as my art skills progress I’ll be able to do this.

One piece of audio I wanted to do was thunder and lightning, but I think due to my animation
What did you discard and why? style being too cute and too solid with certain colours it would of looked out of place to do
thunder and lightning with sound effects.
If I were to do the animation again I’d make sure I had enough time to do thunder and
What would you now include and lightning, and I’d draw it in my art style so it didn’t look so out of place, furthermore this
why? would mean I would be able to add the sound effects, but I’d make them pretty quiet so it
doesn’t ruin the flow of the animation.
I think I’d like to revisit lip syncing as a character is moving, although this doesn’t fully relate

to audio, this skill would most definitely help me with my drawing skills and general

understanding of Adobe Animate.
I think learning how to do audio effects, and then emphasis it through the animation, for
Are there any new ones you think example reverb adds echo so make the animation different to fit the audio effect, adapting it,
would be useful for this project? and if I added reverb to any part it would be the part where the sun is inside the cloud, this
would reinforce the whole windy and stormy effect given off by the cloud.
How does your final audio I think the sound effect I added of me being happy an almost grin like giggle is pretty good, its
compare to professional quiet but adds a lot to the suns personality of being cute and kind. As well as my relaxing of
examples? Give at least one the sun sound effect, its short but seems like it should be there, however the wind sound
positive and one thing you would effect I found was very artificial and didn’t actually sound like wind, I think next time I might
focus on improving. make my own wind sound effect so it sounds more realistic.
