same. The difference between these definitions lies only in the m/index.php/
way the author has undertaken research in his/her discipline. definitions-
A broad definition of research is given by Martyn research-
Shuttleworth – “In the broadest sense of the word, the definition famous-writers/
of research includes any gathering of data, information and
facts for the advancement of knowledge.”
Another definition of research is given by Creswell who

issue”. It consists of three steps: Pose a question, collect data to
may vary answer the question, and present an answer to the question.
in other There are already various definitions of research given
above. In general, it is a way of thinking and finding answers to
schools/ the questions that come into your mind. In our day-to-day life,
Districts. we formulate several questions in our mind. We want to get
answers for these questions. Some of these questions can be
answered easily without any need of scientific scrutiny
(inspection or examination); while there are also some questions
that need to be answered in a logical manner. The process that
needs to be followed in finding answers to such question should
have to be empirical and subjective. The techniques and
procedures that need to be used should also be valid and

logical. In this way, we are able to get answers that are
authentic and verifiable. The research process also requires
scientific scrutiny and the procedures involved in this scrutiny
should have to be valid and reliable.
To become proficient in research, one needs to know the
language. Several terms have been introduced that are
important to mastering research as a language. The main terms
include:

 Theory – a plausible or scientifically acceptable general

principle or body of principles offered to explain
phenomena.
 Concept – A concept is best defined as an abstract label
that represents an aspect of reality (usually in the form of
an object, policy, issue, problem, or phenomenon). Every
discipline has its own concepts. For example, common
concepts in criminal justice and criminology include
criminality, law, rehabilitation, and punishment.
 Operationalization - The act of operationalizing is the
describing of how a concept is measured. This process is
best defined as the conversion of the abstract idea or
notion into a measurable item. In other words, it involves
taking something that is conceptual and making it
observable, or going from abstract to concrete.
 Variables –
 Hypothesis – The hypothesis is a specific statement
describing the expected relationship between the
independent and dependent variables; and
 Sample is a group chosen from within a target population
to provide information sought.

What a campaign is

set of organized actions that a political candidate
undertakes in an attempt to win an election. (Oxford

speaking context; and the speech itself.
 Vivid language helps listeners create mental images. It
involves both imagery (e.g., concreteness, simile, and
metaphor) and rhythm (e.g., parallelism, repetition,
alliteration, and assonance).
 Inclusive language avoids placing any one group of
people above or below other groups while speaking. As
such, speakers need to think about how they refer to
various groups within society. https://

comfortable, which will improve audience perceptions of campaign
the speech.

What an advocacy is
Advocacy is defined as any action that speaks in favor of,
recommends, argues for a cause, supports or defends, or pleads
on behalf of others [Alliance for Justice’s Nonprofit Advocacy
Project (NAP)].
Advocacy helps people to speak up and get involved when
decisions are being made about in their lives.
Advocacy is based on a belief that you are the best person
to make a decision about your life.

Role of language
The language to be used in research, campaigns, and
advocacies matters. The impact of one’s writing is dependent
upon on the appropriateness of its language in its context, to
the audience, and to its purpose. To communicate our message
effectively requires great power of language.
