BSACC 1-YA-1 Assignment - The Information Age

Reflection paper

1. Which developments in the information age brought significant changes in the way you
live your life today?

Developments from the information age that I think have brought significant
changes are the breakthrough of smart gadgets and the internet. As far as we know, life
without it before was all done manually and slowly, most especially when sending and
receiving important messages or information to one person only or to a mass of people.
We could be able to not just send messages but also talk or call people just from a
certain place without leaving. The digital breakthrough made all our simple everyday
important work fast and efficient. It made anything so simple and easy to do and finish.
Therefore, I shall agree that the developments digitally are a significant part of our
generation. As we are not just continuously evolving physically, but also economically.
We need it as a tool to back up the vast changes in our modern civilization.

2. How did the transmission of information evolve from ancient times up to the present?

From my perspective, I believe that the transmission of information evolved

starting from speaking or talking of people to one another. And from that, writing has
become a tool to briefly understand and remember all the words that were spoken by a
person who shares his stories, information, knowledge, etc. The writings have become a
record or storage of all important details to remember for a long time. And then, to be
able to share this knowledge with several people, that was the time when the process of
spreading information around the places began. It started from manually re-writing the
information to a large quantity of paper resulting in the invention of the printing press
and other materials for writing like typewriters etc. This also leads to the idea of making
mailboxes, post offices or sending a message through a bird or a person which is called a
messenger. But all these processes would take a long time to be done, and so that is
when the invention of electronic things like the telegraph, the telephone, and television
was developed. And the present times, because of these developments, this gave an idea
for people to develop more high-tech and smarter just like the invention of computers,
smart gadgets, and even the internet and Wi-Fi.

3. As a student, how will you use social media to ensure that you do not propagate
inaccurate and unreliable information?

As a student who also mostly relies on information or study resources from the
internet, I myself must also be responsible for overseeing the information that I will input
in the internet. I think is just a very simple thing to remember to not just avoid acquiring
inaccurate information but to also encrypt accurate information as a return and as also a

simple act of helping other students out there who have struggles and lack of knowledge
in getting accurate sources. And in order to successfully do it, make sure that if we want
to give accurate information, we don’t just get it from our own opinion but also from
other legitimate or verified sources to support that the information we propagate is
accurate and strong. We could get a lot of accurate information from legal articles and
producers of information on verified websites like Britannica, news articles from well-
known news stations, verified video channels, and even from famous magazine articles.
