EARTHQUAKE?
any sudden shaking of the ground caused by the passage of
seismic waves through Earth’s rocks. Seismic waves are
produced when some form of energy stored in Earth’s crust is
suddenly released, usually when masses of rock straining
against one another suddenly fracture and “slip.”
Earthquakes occur most often along geologic faults, narrow
zones where rock masses move in relation to one another

1. The Philippine National Police declared a full alert status and


deployed 271 personnel and 27 vehicles in Bohol and Cebu and has
continuously monitored the effects of the earthquake.

2. The Armed Forces of the Philippines coordinated with local


governments and provincial disaster management units for
updates on the situation and for damage assessments.

3. The Department of Social Welfare and Development released


₱10 million for the purchase of relief goods for displaced families.
The department planned to distribute two thousand family packs
and 100 rolls of laminated sacks that would be airlifted by the
Philippine Air Force's C130.

1. NDRRMC report the situational effect of the 6.9 Earthquake where they ensure the
implementation of disaster risk reduction and management activities as per the
National Strategic Framework and National Plan.

2. Quick Response Team (QRT) was deployed to Negros. The QRT’s primary purpose was
to evaluate the extent of damages due to the earthquakes in the province of Negros
especially those municipalities located near the epicenter. The team was also tasked to
verify and map the reported ground rupture, conduct an intensity survey, disseminate
correct information regarding the event, and install additional seismographs in order to
monitor aftershocks of the magnitude 6.2 earthquake.

3. The Energy Development Corporation (EDC) poured in an additional P500,000 worth of


relief goods to the quake-hit families in the towns of Tayasan, Jimalalud and
Guihulngan City. EDC Vice President for its Southern Negros Geothermal Production Field,
Engr. Dwight Maxino said, EDC has already given out P1.5 million worth of relief bags
containing rice, canned goods, bottled water, blankets and flashlights to the earthquake
victims since February up to the present.
