Demonstrate the breadth of research or lack of it on a topic.

To compare research conclusion or the range of opinions on topic.

How to summarize an article

1- Read the article by focusing on the purpose, research method and finding a conckusions.
2- Highlight or makes notes important aspects
3- Write an overview as clearly as you can with carefully worded sentences
4- Always use your own words, do not quote or use relevant research findings from an
information source.
5- Citations of the article
6- Reference list at the end

Paraphrasing

Putting other people words into your own words to show understanding and also shows good
academic honesty.

Steps

-Read carefully, as we cannot paraphrase if we do not understand

-Make sure we understand

-Go away and take a break to let the information process and be a part of your brain.

-Rewrite in your own words, without even looking as this can be more effective and make sure to
change grammar and vocabulary.

-Check to see the differences in words and grammar and make comparison between both your
original text and the one you have wrote.

-Cite the paraphrased text, give the author credit and make sure it is a citation not a quotation.
Unless it is a common knowledge, no citations are needed.
