CHAPTER ONE;INTRODUCTION AND OVERVIEW
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Accommodation is one of the key essential part of any student .accommodation helps in easing a
student life meaning that they have a place to go back to after class . according to Khozaei
(2010)they call it a hostel it’s a place where student get accommodation facilities In chapter one
it’s here that we are going to talk about the accommodation sector in kabuku the number of
business one we are going to be looking at the statement problem ,objective and research
question .so institution always ensure that they have well fitted in are of good condition and are
enough .are the number of students in Kenya increase the no of student accommodation facilities
always do so .

2.0 PROBLEM STATEMENT

Despite the fact that there has been some research on student accommodation [Wesonga, Mwiria
et al., 2007); J. W. Ndungu (2015); Gisesa in 2012; Njagi (2008); The majority of it has focused
on the lack of hostels, according to Ireri (2006). Private student housing has been the subject of
research by Gisesa (2012) and Ndungu, J. W. (2015). Ireri (2006) also talked about student
housing and the space needs of student housing facilities. Despite the fact that the
aforementioned studies reveal a shortage, they also demonstrate that the existing student housing
facilities, particularly in public tertiary institutions, were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s with
designs that suited the needs and trends of the time. Little or no effort has been made to renovate
and upgrade these facilities to meet the requirements of the contemporary student in Kenya
(Ndungu, J. W., 2015). In kabuku not been left out its Local research to determine what students
want from their ideal accommodation is lacking, to say the least. In order to learn about the
needs and requirements of students, it is essential to investigate the preferences of college and
university students regarding accommodations. This study aims to fill this information gap that
institutions and private developers of student housing require as a foundation for innovations
needed to meet today's student housing needs. The potential growth of student accommodation in
Kenya is a complex issue that depends on several factors such as the demand for higher
education, the availability of affordable housing, and the level of government support for the
education sector. On one hand, the demand for higher education in Kenya is increasing, with
more and more students seeking to pursue their studies in universities and colleges. This has led
to a rise in demand for student accommodation, especially in major cities where most
universities and colleges are located. On the other hand, the availability of affordable housing in
Kenya is a major challenge, and students are often forced to live in overcrowded and substandard
accommodation. This presents a huge opportunity for the growth of student accommodation in
the country. The government also has a role to play in promoting the growth of student
accommodation in Kenya. For example, they can provide incentives for private investors to build
student accommodation facilities, or they can build student. Additionally, factors such as
urbanization, a growing middle class, and increasing foreign investment in the education sector

1
can also impact the growth of student accommodation in Kenya. Urbanization is leading to
increase in the number of students from rural areas who are seeking higher education in cities,
creating a higher demand for student housing. A growing middle class is also contributing to the
growth of the higher education sector and demand for student accommodation. Finally, foreign
investment in the education sector is bringing in new educational institutions and students, which
also drives demand for student housing.

1.3 objective of the study .

Specifically the study will aim at the following objectives ;
i. determine the preferred accommodation for the student.
ii. examine the location of the housing for college students in kabuku.
iii. To know the key innovation in the student accommodation facilities in kabuku .
1.4 research question
What is the potential of student accommodation facilities to grow in kabuku ?
