Activity Title : Derive Relationships among angles formed by Parallel Lines cut by a Transversal
using Measurement and by Inductive Reasoning
Learning Target : To derive relationships among angles formed by Parallel Lines cut by a
Transversal using measurement and by inductive reasoning
References : Math 7 Learner’s Material Q 3, MELC ( M7GE-IIIc-1)
LAS Writer : Jocelyn L. Ayonon

A Transversal is a line that intersects two coplanar lines (not necessarily parallel) at two distinct
points.
Interior angles are the four angles formed inside the parallel lines while exterior angles lie outside
the parallel lines. Same side interior angles are pair of interior angles that lie on the same side of
the transversal while Same side exterior angles are pair of exterior angles that lie on the same side
of the transversal. Corresponding angles are pair of nonadjacent interior and exterior angles on the
same side of a transversal.
Example: t

1 2
l
3 4

5 6 m
7 8

Figure 1: Line t is a transversal of lines l and m that forms 8 angles.

Angles 3 and 6; 4 and 5 are alternate interior angles.

Angles 1 and 8; 2 and 7 are alternate exterior angles.
Angles 3 and 5; 4 and 6 are same-side interior angles.
Angles 1 and 7; 2 and 8 are same-side exterior angles.
Angles 1 and 5; 2 and 6; 3 and 7; 4 and 8 are corresponding angles.

Activity: Name Me!

Using the figure 2 below. Name the given angle pairs formed. No. 1 is done for you.
t 1. Angle C and angle F are ____alternate interior angles.
2. Angle D and angle E are _______________________.
A B l 3. Angle A and angle H are _______________________.
C D 4. Angle B and angle G are________________________.
E F m 5. Angle C and angle E are________________________.
G H 6. Angle D and angle F are________________________.
7. Angle A and angle G are________________________.
8. Angle B and angle H are________________________.
9. Angle A and angle E are________________________.
Figure 2. 10. Angle D and angle H are______________________.
