Background of the study
Smoking is an important
common medical condition around the
world. In the Philippines, about 10

87,000 every year, from smoking-
related diseases such as cancer,
stroke, cardiovascular and respiratory
diseases. There were 16.6 million
adults (23.8%) who reported using
tobacco in any way. With an average
of 11 cigarettes per day, 18.7% (13.1
million) of adults currently consume
tobacco everyday. The average
monthly cost for daily cigarette
smokers was PHP 678.4.
More than 16 million
Americans live with a smoking-related
ailment, while an estimated 30.8
million adults in the us presently
smoke cigarettes. At 52.1%, Nauru
has the highest smoking prevalence
worldwide. In Nauru, strangely, women
smoke somewhat more than men do
(52.6% to 51.7%), which is a bit of an
anomaly. The second-highest rate is
found in Kiribati, where the total
(52.0%) is made up of 68.6% men and
35.5% women, a more usual mix.
In the Philippines, tobacco is
used by 17.3 million people, or 28% of
the population. Men are more likely to
smoke (48%) than women are (9%). In

Review of Related Literature

literature of the two variables, namely
the student cigarette consumption and
budgeting of allowance.
Cigarette Consumption
There is still a growing concern
that the historic reduction in tobacco
consumption witnessed in the past
decades may be undermined by the
rapid increase in cigarette use, (Kristle
Foley Precentine Medicine 103, 14-19,
2017)

Budgeting of Allowance
The study of budgeting of
student’s allowance revealed that

affects the academic performance of
students in terms of transportation,
allowance budgeting helps students
attend their class on time and it gives
positive effects on their academic
performance; food, allowance
budgeting helps students properly allot
their money on food so they can have
enough energy to participate well in
class recitations and activities;
projects, allowance budgeting
positively helps their students to make
their assigned projects with fewer
expenses; and Savings, allowance
budgeting helps students save money
that can be used for future academic

Research Design
This study focused on the SHS
student smoker cigarette consumption
and budgeting of allowance in
Francisco Bustamante National High
School. The research design used in
this study is a quantitative non-
experimental descriptive correlational
design.
Respondents of the Study
The Respondents of the study
focused primarily on the Senior High
School Grade 12 of Francisco
Bustamante National High School who
are Cigarette Smoker, In every Grade
12 strand in FBNHS, we will use
probability sampling method and
randomly choose students to answer
the survey question.
Sampling Method
In this study, probability
sampling method is utilized by the
researchers in which they identify the
respondents that are qualified to the
study's objectives by writing each
names of Grade 12 students on a
paper and put it inside a container and
pick randomly to find the respondents.

Thus, these students met the
mentioned objectives of the study.
Research Instrument
In This study, the researchers
used surveys-questionnaires as
Instruments so that the student’s
answers will vary on the test given to
them. Ratio scale and Interval scale
questions were used in this study to
determine how they will budget their
allowance when consuming cigarettes.
This survey questionnaire
contains 29 interval scale questions
and 1 ratio scale question items.
Random selection will be used in this
study in choosing respondents.
Data Collection
Actual surveys interview of 10
students on every Grade 12 strand. By

be able to distribute the research
questionnaire and can get the answer
from the students.

this chapter includes the data
amassed, the researcher's analysis,
and an interpretation of the findings
from the dispersed surveys.
