Lesson 2: Communication Principles and Ethics


MOTIVATION: Do you have any experience in engaging in a public talk? How
does it feel talking to a large audience? What are the factors that you considered?
How about communicating to a superior or colleague through writing? How did
you come up with a good communication with each other?

 Yes, I have experienced engaging in a public talk during our activity in Oral
Communication and Research subjects in Senior High. Of course I am very
nervous especially all their attention are on me. I haven’t communicate to a
superior through writing yet but sometimes I’m interacting with them
verbally when we got to see each other in the hallway.
PURPOSIVE COMMUNICATION - CHAPTER 2
Lesson 1: Communication and Globalization
MOTIVATION:
1. What is the image saying about the world today?
- The world is really is different now from before, all things can be done online or
digitally. Just a single click, you can access more information about what topic you
want to know.
2. What do you think has contributed to the easy access and exchange of
information these days? Why?
- The Internet. Why? Because most people nowadays use social media to interact
with each other, exchange information, communicate etc. Majority of them are also
on internet 24/7. Telecommunication also has a significant role and instant
messaging systems have made global communication quite simple. Technology
improvements have also contributed to making information more accessible than
before.
3. In transacting or communicating in a global setting, what vital preparations
must be done? Why?
- The language that to be used in order to avoid misunderstanding. With the proper
language, both side can understand each other and freely exchange their ideas
without the barrier of language.

Lesson 2: Local and Global Communication in Multicultural Setting


MOTIVATON:
How do you get to communicate effectively across cultures? Indicate whether you
agree or disagree with each of the following statements:

Have you ever experienced having a conversation with a foreigner? How was
it? Did you have fun? What were your most unforgettable experiences?
- No, I haven’t experienced having a conversation with a foreigner.

Lesson 1: Cultural Texts
MOTIVATION:
Have you ever watched Harry Potter movies? Or do you have a friend who
lives in the UK? Do you also like watching Peppa Pig the Movie? What have
you observed in the way they speak and the words they use? How about
American movies? I’m pretty sure you have watched one. Try to compare the
two languages (American English and British English) in terms of
pronunciation and the terms they use. Are there any differences?
- Yes, there are differences between American and British English. First of all the
pronunciation especially some words that contains the letter ‘r’ for example when
the letter r comes after the a vowel in the same syllable liker water and car, the r is
not pronounced whereas in American English the letter r is pronounced. They also
differ in terms of vocabulary, like lift in British English and elevator in American
English. And lastly in spelling. Humour, favourite, centre, organise in British
English are spelled humor, favorite, center, organize in American English.

MOTIVATION:
If you were given the chance to talk from the three personalities given what
will you say or ask him or her? (Miss Universe Philippines Rabiya Mateo,
President Rodrigo Duterte and Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago)

Topic/ Question: How can we differentiate a true politician that will truly serve
the citizens to a politician that only cares for power and money? This is really
timely right now because of the incoming 2022 election and I just know that this
question will be very useful especially for teenagers like that will vote for the first
the first time.
