FLEXION

Knee flexion is the act of

decreasing the angle between
your thigh and your shin. We use
flexion every day when doing
activities such as walking, running,
or even just sitting.

CIRCUMDUCTION
Circumduction is the act of moving our
arms in a circular manner. The hand
forms a circle and the arm forms a cone.
We can use circumduction in activities
such as playing sports like tennis,
baseball, softball, and bowling, which
require spinning arm movements.

PRONATION
Pronation is the rotational movement
of the arm in which the palm and
forearm are facing downward. We
use pronation in activities like typing
on the keyboard, playing the piano,
and others.

DORSIFLEXION &
PLANTERFLEXION
Dorsiflexion is the lifting of the front of the
foot so that the top of the foot moves toward
the anterior leg, while plantar flexion is the
lifting of the heel of the foot from the ground
or pointing the toes downward. We use these
movements when we are walking, running,
pedalling a bike, etc.

INVERSION
An inversion is a movement of the foot
which causes the soles of the feet to face
inwards. In sports, when the foot is
inverted, a football player can curl the
ball with the inside of his foot. Another is
when a basketball player jumps, their feet
are inverted to make them jump higher.
