Pandemic Parody

Have you ever experienced being a student while at the same time being the teacher
all at once? Or you are studying a certain topic but you cannot understand anything and you
can’t even ask someone to teach you. This is the feeling of a student during modular
distance learning. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many lifestyles have been deeply
affected, including education.
The pandemic and school closures jeopardized everyone’s health and learning. It
altered everyone’s health since the virus is deadly and widespread and can penetrate
through the air. Considering the pandemic locked down all schools, everyone’s learning was
put to a stop.
The Philippine government, especially the Department of Education or known as the
DepEd, proposed a solution regarding the situation in our education and that is now called
distance learning or the new modes of learning amidst the pandemic. As an example,
students who choose modular distance learning do not have an internet connection or even
a stable one at home. Next, is online distance learning, wherein students here prefer to
study through various applications online, such as Google Meets, Zoom, and Discord. There
will be a teacher to discuss the lesson but through online only. The last one is Blended
Learning, or the mode that has the combination of the two modes mentioned earlier. You
will pass your modules, and at the same time, you will attend meetings whenever your
teacher wants you to.
Learning during the COVID-19 pandemic has been a tough experiences for me. Aside
from having too many activities in the modules, learning at home is also a challenge. When I
am answering my modules, my parents sometimes order me to buy something from the
store or clean something. I get frustrated every time I am called by them because I get
interrupted while answering my modules. Furthermore, I cannot comprehend the lessons
well in the modules since my teachers are not here to guide me. Although my teachers
respond to my questions sometimes, I can still say that it is still different learning in face-to-
face classes rather than this distance learning.
Modular distance learning has left a big impact on me, not only as a student but also
as a daughter, a friend, and most certainly as a person. Throughout distance learning, I’ve
learned to be independent or to stand on my own, just like when I am answering my
modules. I answered all of them thanks to my hard work and perseverance. A pandemic can
be comparable to an obstacle in life; it only passes us through. We may be shaken, we may
fall, but one thing is for sure, we will still get up and stand still. Any circumstances that may
pass us by will help us develop or mold us into the person we are today.
