About Us
Our team believes that every student has the right to
pursue their love for science, technology, engineering,
and math (STEM), regardless of their background. Our
mission is to promote STEM participation and
education in our community through outreaches that
provide learning experiences, valuable to the growth
of our future engineers of tomorrow.
Why Centennial Robotics?
Our organization has two main branches, the competitive arm which
competes in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) tournament, and an outreach
arm that focuses on spreading STEM for the future engineers of tomorrow.
Our competitive robotics teams, Cryptic #20123 and Epsilon #20124,
promote STEM through their high-level involvement in the competition and
engagement in the community.

Competition Experience
Not only have our teams won the 1st Place Inspire Award
several times (the most esteemed award), but we have also
been the winning alliance at the Mid-Atlantic District
Tournaments and have even attended the World
Championship. In their rookie years, both Cryptic and
Epsilon persevered through the regional tournaments and
placed among the top teams in Maryland. Team Cryptic
went on to accomplish many more awards and placed
within the top ten teams in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Past Outreaches
Cryptic and Epsilon are constantly engaged with
the community through creating, participating in,
and promoting STEM events. Cryptic was featured
in the Howard County Chinese School STEM
Festival and later, we developed an event series
called "Taking Your FIRST Steps in STEM" with the
Howard County Library System. These events were
entirely managed and created by us at their many
locations to promote STEM and our team through
interactive STEM challenges. We also partnered
with many FTC teams throughout Pennsylvania,
Wisconsin, and New Jersey to reach more
students.
Program Demographics
Our teams make strong efforts to outreaching out to
underrepresented demographics in STEM. In past years, we
have worked closely with the Maryland Space Business
Roundtable, Girls Who Code, IEDA Lab Kids, Howard County
Chinese School, and more organizations that prioritize
diversity in education.

The impact? Just take a look at our teams'

diversity; the numbers speak for themselves:

100% High School Students

84% Members from minority ethnicities

87% Outreach Attendees are Students K-12

27% Female and Non-Binary

40% Underclassmen in High School

Our competitive robotics teams require robot parts and

materials that are crucial but costly. The outreach funds are
necessary for the many events and activities that our group
organizes for local community centers such as our STEM
program with the Howard County Library System and fun
science games for local STEM festivals. In addition to the
competition fees required for moving up to higher rounds in
the tournament, our teams need on about $2,000 to operate.

Our Recent Trends

After a conflict of interest between our previous sponsor, Centennial
High School, and our robotics teams, we disassociated in 2021. In the
years previous, we accumulated a substantial amount of funding from
school-eligible grants and continually exceeded our projections for
funding. After 2021, however; our funds were taken by the school and
we began fundraising from the ground up. In addition to the recent
COVID-19 pandemic, sponsorships have been difficult to attain but we
expect a significant increase in revenue this year with our new
fundraising plans and opportunities.

Previous Funding
Our team has worked with many companies
for sponsorships in the past season: FEI
Systems, RELI Group, Assymmetrik, MSBR,
and many more. Their contributions allowed
us to access the tools and equipment
needed to create our robot and host
workshops.

it was difficult to
receive adequate funding.

Our Plans

We plan to build upon our existing connections and search for new
opportunities throughout the season. In terms of robot design, our
team strives to find mentors who can provide insight into building
our mechanisms, programming functions, and future
opportunities. Last year, for instance, we got in touch with team
Robotic Doges #8645 and were introduced to their coaching team.
While we were at their site, we understood the benefit of mentors–
their experience plays a significant role in finding new perspectives
and troubleshooting advanced programs. For outreach, we want to
continue working with Pingry Robotics #6069 and A.L.I.E.N. #19367
to improve the virtual competitions we planned. We have many
notes on how to improve the CADathon and hackathon
respectively. Furthermore, we are planning to implement new
marketing techniques to acquire funds such as applying for more
grants, selling our own merchandise, and crowdfunding online.
