Each one will have a millimeter sheet; write your name on the back or in a corner.

This on the sheet is a

centimeter, if you want to
check, you can measure it.

The little squares inside are one

millimeter.

To start building the pyramid, vertically use the sheet, and draw this:

Age

The age goes 5 by 5, like

here, and each little group
goes in a 1 cm square.

These numbers are also

placed in squares of 1 cm
each

Male Female

The distance between each number in the base is one centimeter so that each age
group will have the same size.
Once the base is drawn with the percentages below and the ages in the middle,
you start doing the bars. To build the bars, you must convert all the data into
percentages. I will explain it using Chile:

Men from 0 to 4 years old are

585999 (DO NOT WRITE ANY
POINT OR COMMA, BECAUSE
OTHERWISE, IT DOESN'T
WORK...)

Then, multiply 585999 by 100 and

divide it by the total population,
that is 15116435

585999 x 100 = 58599900

58599900 = 3.8
15116435
That result, 3.8 is the percentage.
Therefore, we know that in Chile
in 2002, 3.8% of the population
were men between 0 and 4 years
old.

We have to convert all the data

into percentages. For this, you can
do it among several options. For
example, you can do it using excel
or any other tool, but each one
works in its pyramids!
Be careful; it is the total for the
country, do not use the totals by
age. It is always the total of the
country, which is pointing to the
arrow.
Now, how to draw the bar is very easy. As the sheets are millimeters, each square
is a centimeter, and each mini square is a millimeter. Example:

Here, I put the squares,

calculating that they fit with the
numbers; the 0 is on the line; the
1, one cm to the left; the 2, one
cm to the left, etc.

You have to draw the bar

corresponding to 3.8, so there
are 3 one cm squares, and I
count 8 mini squares.
You have to work first in pencil and then, when everything is ready, and we are
sure that the data is correct, that the bars are correct. Then you need to write with
a black pen all the data, and the bars usually are painted blue for men and red for
women.

More or less, it looks like this while you build it: (isn't Chile).
