2. Which is better, Regionalism or Internationalism? Explain your answer.

(300
words)

Dealing with this kind of topic regarding choosing from two sides with each
containing good attributes and compelling arguments to support is the kind of topic I
don’t want to be involved with but since our professor wants me to choose and if I don’t,
I won’t receive grades, so I will pick internationalism.

Both regionalism and internationalism have their up and downsides but since I
found out that regionalism has more downsides, and these downsides are more critical
than that of internationalism, then I will choose internationalism. Well, I don’t disregard
the idea of regionalism that supports the identity and empowerment of each region for
example the difference between Southerners and New Englanders, North and South
Korea, etc. Each region successfully preserved its own identity, culture, the system of
governance, and economic stability, but I think what regionalism lacks is the
brotherhood of nations Two heads are better than one, no man is an island, and other
famous quotes are not only the reasons I have to support the idea of internationalism,
but also the effects that we are observing today. Our world is mostly comprised of third-
world countries, and we can’t deny that. According to worldpopulationreview.com, there
are 150+ countries with a low human development index with countries Tuvalu and
Somalia that has 0 (zero) HDI. Many countries need a helping hand, especially those
countries that are still developing. Internationalism will be a catalyst for progress and
many will benefit from this. Poverty is not only the main problem of our world, but also
world crimes, that’s why we need to support internationalism for it promotes peace,
security, self-determination, economic stability, and humanitarianism.

Though I admit that there are multiple disadvantages of internationalism like

language barriers, cultural differences, international trade issues, etc., these
disadvantages for me are reparable and can be resolved within a country or a region. If
a nation will prioritize regionalism, it will be difficult for a country to progress, develop,
and unite, but with internationalism, we will become allies, and peace and progress will
take place. And that’s what I care about.
