(Viva voce questions and Answers)

1. LCR RESONANCE

1. Define resonance.

When the natural frequency of the system matches with the applied frequency, the system is said

to be under resonance.

2. Define henry.

Henry is the SI unit of inductance, equal to an emf of one volt in a closed circuit with a uniform rate

of change of current of one ampere per second.

3. What is the capacitance of the capacitor?

The capacitance of a capacitor is defined as the quantity of charge required to raise its potential by

1 volt. The unit of capacitance is Farad.

4. Define a Farad.

Farad is the SI unit of capacitance. The capacitance of a capacitor is said to be 1 farad if the addition

of 1 coulomb of charge raises its potential by 1 volt in the given environment.

5. Define power factor.

The power factor is defined as the ratio of the resistance to the impedance.

2. DIELECTRIC CONSTANT

1. What is the passive element?

The circuit elements which cannot deliver any electrical power and do not perform the operations

like amplification, rectification, etc. are called passive elements.

2. What are active elements?

The circuit elements which can deliver electrical power to the system and can perform the

operations like amplification, rectification, etc. are called active elements.

3. What is meant by the capacitance of a capacitor?

It is defined as the ratio of the charge on either of the conductors to the potential difference

between the conductors forming the capacitor.

4. Define the Dielectric constant.

It is defined as the ratio of the absolute permittivity of a given medium to the absolute permittivity

of free space.

5. How can the capacitance of a capacitor be increased?

The capacitance of the capacitor can be increased by introducing a dielectric material between the

two parallel plates of the capacitor.

3. Acceptance angle and Numerical Aperture

1. What is the Angle of Acceptance?

It is the maximum angle that can be sent into the optical fiber such that it suffers Total Internal

reflection and reaches the other end of the fiber.

2. What is Numerical Aperture?

It is light gathering capacity of an optical fiber and it is given by 𝑵. 𝑨 = 𝒔𝒊𝒏 𝜽𝟎

What is Optical fiber?

Optical fibers are essentially light guides used in optical communication as waveguides. They are

transparent dielectrics and can guide visible and IR rays over long distances.

4. What is attenuation and mention the types.

Attenuation is the loss of power suffered by the optical signal as it propagates through the fiber.

there are three types of attenuation, Absorption loss, Scattering loss, and Radiation loss.

5. What are the advantages of Optical fiber?

➢ It carries a very large amount of information in either digital or analog form.
