A Are you an emotional person? Do you burst into tears when you see a sad advertisement or go to pieces when

manage and control emotions.

ło

B Feelings and emotions play an essential role in everyday life. The problem starts when we lose control over them.

For example, what do you do when you’re feeling bored or lonely? I used to turn to food, which, of course, never

worked. After yet another midnight snack, I felt so miserable that I decided to seek professional help. Surprisingly,
br mi

understanding the reasons for my emotions has been a huge part of my therapy. I came to realise that if you are

aware of the circumstances that have caused your emotions, such as jealousy, fear or anger, you are more likely to

be able to control your reactions.

n w

C To help deal with your emotions, you can try writing them down and asking yourself a few questions: Why do I feel
so stressed today? Is there anything positive I can do for myself at the moment? Another method is to tell someone

about your feelings, for example, You made me irritated when you lost my book. In this way we take responsibility
uc uż

for our emotions, even though it’s other people’s actions that triggered them. It’s a good idea to wait until you

have calmed down and started thinking more rationally.

an rz

D It’s not so easy to say nothing whenever you are angry or in a hurry. Why not try using a mantra, a short phrase

that, when repeated several times, may help you think twice and control your reactions. It could be something like
m no

Stay cool or Yes, I can, or you may prefer something completely different. All you need is the confidence that you
are able to decide whether emotions rule your life or whether you are able to manage them.
